At Turners Floral Ltd, we grow healthy, high-quality plants and flowers, and we’re looking for a skilled Nursery Person to join our Farming Team in Pukekohe. If you love working outdoors, take pride in quality, and know your way around propagation, we’d love to hear from you.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll be involved in every stage of the growing cycle, including:
Preparing potting media and containers, then selecting and planting seeds, bulbs and cuttings
Budding and grafting onto rootstock
Watering by hand and running automatic irrigation
Applying pesticides and treating pests, diseases, weeds and plant disorders
Weeding, pruning and disbudding to keep plants in top condition
Inspecting crops for pests and disease
Picking, grading, processing and packaging flowers, and organising cool-store storage
Selecting and packaging plants for presentation and delivery
Keeping accurate records of soil mixes, plantings, treatments, losses and yields
Advising customers on plant care and choosing the right plants for local conditions
Helping with sales and training new staff when needed
What you’ll bring
A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification in horticulture or nursery production (or equivalent), or at least 3 years of relevant nursery or horticultural experience
Hands-on propagation experience (seed, cuttings, budding and grafting) – required
Good knowledge of plants and plant care, with the confidence to advise customers
Strong written and spoken English and good communication skills
Speed, accuracy and strong attention to detail, including record keeping
The ability to lift up to 20kg and work outdoors and in greenhouses in all weather, standing, bending and kneeling for long periods
A reliable team player who’s happy to cover others when needed
You’ll need to live within a reasonable distance of our Pukekohe site
Bonus points for:
GROWSAFE or other agrichemical handling certification
A full, current driver’s licence
The details
Location: 15c Shipherd Road, RD3, Pukekohe (on-site only)
Hours: Permanent, Full-time: 40 hours guaranteed. This role is a maximum 40 hours per week.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30am start, with weekend work as required. Please note that we require all staff to commit to working alternative days and hours during public holidays and our key event seasons – Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day.
Salary: A gross salary of $65,000 -$68,000, subject to experience of applicant.
