About Us
Catalyst Performance Agronomy is a team of agronomists with a growth mindset and one clear goal – helping New Zealand farmers make the most from their land. We bring together proven seed, effective chemical and fertiliser with our Performance Agronomy™ approach, working alongside farmers paddock-to-paddock to deliver real, measurable results.
Headquartered in Ashburton, with branches across North Canterbury, Mid Canterbury, North Otago, Central Otago, Southland and the North Island, we’re a growing business that backs its people and its clients.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for an Agronomist to join our Central Otago team. We’re open to candidates at different stages of their career, from experienced agronomists ready for a senior role to those looking to build their agronomy career with the support of an experienced team. The role and remuneration package will reflect your experience.
Farming in Central Otago presents unique challenges, and farmers need a trusted advisor who understands their system, provides practical advice, and follows through to deliver results.
This is a relationship-focused role where you’ll work closely with farmers, build long-term partnerships, and help them achieve their goals through tailored agronomic advice. For senior candidates, there is also the opportunity to provide technical leadership and help shape Catalyst’s growth across the region.
What you’ll do
Build and manage a portfolio of farm clients across Central Otago
Deliver Performance Agronomy™ advice across pasture renewal, forage and winter feed crops, weed and pest control, and fertiliser programmes
Plan seasonal programmes with clients and follow them through from paddock prep to results
Work closely with suppliers, contractors, and the wider Catalyst team
At a senior level, mentor, and support junior agronomists as a trusted technical resource
What you bring
A background in agriculture, whether that’s agronomy, on-farm or rural sales
Knowledge of pasture, forage crops, agrichemicals or fertiliser, and a willingness to keep learning
An understanding of southern or high-country farming systems, or the drive to get up to speed fast
Strong relationship skills and genuine follow-through
The ability to work independently, manage your own time and lead by example
For the senior role: proven experience as an agronomist and a track record of building long-term client relationships
An agricultural qualification is helpful but not essential
A full, clean driver licence
What’s in it for you
Ownership of your own patch, with the autonomy to run it and an experienced team behind you
For experienced candidates, a senior role with the chance to shape how we grow in Central Otago
Company vehicle, phone and laptop provided
Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives
Group life insurance and trauma cover from day one
Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), providing confidential support for you and your family
Employer-funded annual skin checks
A collaborative team culture with ongoing technical training and genuine career development
