In this role, you will undertake desktop anthropological research, data analysis, report writing and GIS mapping to support the Authority’s work under the Northern Territory Aboriginal Sacred Sites Act 1989.

You will prepare pre-fieldwork anthropology reports, analyse sacred site and spatial information, prepare maps and mapping instructions, and review research data for quality, accuracy and compliance. You will also assist with Authority Certificate conditions, Requests for Information, sacred site registrations, site damage investigations and other approved research projects.

The position works closely with research officers, Aboriginal custodians, land councils, external consultants, pastoral landowners and other stakeholders to support accurate and timely research outcomes. You will also contribute to research policies and methods, peer reviews and training, and may assist with remote fieldwork when required.

To be successful, you will hold a degree in Anthropology or an equivalent discipline and have demonstrated experience analysing complex reports and research data. Experience using databases, research software, genealogy programs, GIS, mapping and multimedia systems is essential, together with strong written communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills. A manual driver’s licence is also required.
