Village Green is a high-quality, beautifully designed nature-based early learning centre located in the heart of Remuera, Auckland. Our purpose-built centre is designed with the health and wellbeing of tamariki at its heart, fostering a strong connection with the natural world.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Kitchen assistant and expert baker to join our team, who is also able to support our centre chef in the kitchen and be able to make on the baking roll as we cater up to 150 children per day for all of their meals and snacks.
You will be supporting the Centre Chef, playing a vital role at Village Green. We place huge importance on offering our tamariki local, fresh, and delicious food — whole foods that support learning, growth, and development.
Our nature-based philosophy is further supported through onsite grow gardens and composting, giving tamariki a meaningful connection to food from seed to plate.
This is a Full-time role, Monday to Friday and we can offer.
About the role
You will work alongside our chef and take instruction from them. The kitchen assistant will support the chef with the baking side of the meals as well as tidying the kitchen, washing dishes with the chef. The role suits someone who is organised, efficient, and able to work independently while communicating effectively with the chef and wider centre team. Expert baking skills are required for this role, as well as food budgeting and menu planning experience.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Helping the centre chef to prepare and serve fresh, nutritious meals for a growing roll of up to 150 children, including morning tea, lunch, and afternoon tea.
Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy, washing dishes, kitchen appliances and equipment.
Maintaining high standards of health, safety, cleanliness, and organisation
Assisting the chef to cater for children with food allergies and intolerances
Supporting sustainable practices, including composting and garden use
