Traffic Management NZ part of the Altus Group, is a leading provider of temporary traffic management services across New Zealand. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for experienced Site Traffic Management Specialists (STMS) to join our team in Wellington.
We have STMS opportunities available across Categories A, B and C and are seeking experienced, reliable and safety-focused professionals who take pride in their work and want to be part of a supportive, professional team.

About the Role
As an STMS, your responsibilities include but not limited to: implementing and monitoring approved traffic management plans, leading and supervising traffic management crews, managing site safety, completing hazard assessments and safety documentation, monitoring traffic conditions and ensuring that work is carried out in accordance with the required standards and procedures.
We welcome applications from experienced STMS personnel with Category A, B and/or C experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise daily site operations, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
- Coordinate traffic management crews, allocate duties and ensure team members understand their responsibilities.
- Review traffic management plans, assess site risks and ensure appropriate safety measures are implemented before work commences.
- Conduct site inspections, pre-start meetings and safety briefings to maintain a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, health and safety requirements and applicable New Zealand regulations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, site supervisors and internal teams to coordinate work activities and resolve operational issues.
- Maintain accurate site documentation, report incidents and hazards, and oversee the safe use of traffic management equipment and company resources.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in an STMS supervisory role within the New Zealand traffic management industry.
- Experience in Category A, B and/or C road environments relevant to the position.
- Relevant current training, competencies and credentials .
- A strong understanding of temporary traffic management practices, site safety and traffic management documentation.
- Good leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to assess risks, identify hazards and make sound decisions in changing work environments.
- A strong commitment to health and safety and quality workmanship.
- A full New Zealand driver's licence.
- The ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
