Love leading a team, delivering awesome customer experiences, and working somewhere a little different? This could be the role for you!

Lake Taupō Hole in One Challenge is one of Taupō’s most recognisable attractions, giving visitors the chance to take a swing over the lake and win big. With our iconic golf attraction, lakefront café, and ever-changing flow of visitors, Hole in One is one of the most unique workplaces ever! This summer, we’re anticipating a larger-than-ever visitor intake, so the willingness and drive to get stuck in is essential.

We’re looking for a motivated, proactive and hands-on Second-in-Charge (2IC) to join our whānau and help keep the whole operation running smoothly. Working alongside the Operations Manager, you’ll play a key role in leading our team, overseeing day-to-day operations, and making sure every guest leaves with a great experience.

This is a role with plenty of variety, responsibility and fun — but let’s be upfront: it’s also a lot of hard mahi. We’re a busy, hands-on operation; you’ll be leading from the front, rolling up your sleeves, solving problems and getting stuck in wherever you’re needed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our 2IC, you’ll be a key leader on-site and a go-to person for both staff and customers. You’ll help coordinate daily operations across our golf attraction, diving programme and café, ensuring the team is supported, the site is looking its best, and our high standards of service and safety are consistently met.

You’ll need to be comfortable taking initiative, making decisions, managing competing priorities and keeping a cool head when things get busy. One minute you might be coaching a team member, the next helping a customer, sorting out an operational issue or jumping in to support the café during a rush.

You’ll also play an important role in building a positive team culture — someone who leads by example, holds people accountable, recognises a job well done and isn’t afraid to have the necessary conversations when standards slip.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Staff Management

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, direction and support to staff across the business.

  • While the roster is organised by the manager, you’ll coordinate last-minute staffing requirements and shift coverage to keep operations running smoothly.

  • Lead by example, setting clear expectations around professionalism, teamwork and accountability.

  • Support the training, onboarding and development of new and existing team members.

  • Monitor performance, provide constructive feedback and help maintain a positive, high-performing team culture.

  • Be a reliable point of contact for staff and help resolve day-to-day challenges.

Golf, Diving & Customer Experience

  • Work closely with our Golf Caddy and Dive Crew to ensure daily activities run safely and efficiently.

  • Help customers, answer questions and step in wherever needed to keep the experience enjoyable.

  • Monitor customer flow and use initiative during busy periods, including setting up an additional mobile EFTPOS/POS station when needed.

  • Help coordinate the setup and pack-down of operational areas, particularly during peak periods and events.

  • Handle customer concerns professionally and find practical solutions that protect the customer experience.

Health, Safety & Site Standards

  • Take an active role in maintaining a safe environment for staff, customers and spectators.

  • Ensure team members understand site hazards, follow procedures and communicate safety requirements to customers.

  • Identify and report hazards, incidents and near misses, taking appropriate action when issues arise.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation across the entire site, including the lakefront, outdoor seating, facilities and bathrooms.

  • Ensure cleaning routines and procedures are followed consistently, and support staff training where required.

  • Help manage stock, equipment and resources to ensure the operation is prepared for each day.

Café Oversight & Team Support

  • Work alongside the Café Supervisor to maintain smooth operations across the wider business.

  • Provide leadership and operational support to the café team when required.

  • Maintain awareness of café staffing, service standards and customer satisfaction.

  • Be flexible and willing to jump between departments when the business needs an extra set of hands.

General Operations & Continuous Improvement

Alongside the Operations Manager, you will:

  • Take ownership of operational issues and follow through until they are resolved.

  • Carry out regular checks of facilities, equipment and customer areas.

  • Ensure company procedures and standards are consistently followed.

  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, teamwork and the overall guest experience.

  • Help create an environment where staff take pride in their work and customers feel genuinely welcome.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re after someone who can balance being a great people person with being a capable, organised and confident leader.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Previous leadership, supervisory or team management experience.

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to lead a team, give direction and have difficult conversations when necessary.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused attitude — someone who sees what needs doing and gets on with it.

  • Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining high standards.

  • The ability to juggle multiple priorities and stay calm under pressure.

  • A strong work ethic and willingness to be hands-on, including with cleaning, setup, restocking and general site duties.

  • A friendly, professional approach to customer service and the ability to handle challenges positively.

  • Reliability, accountability and good time management.

  • Confidence working outdoors in a busy, sometimes unpredictable environment.

  • Flexibility to work across golf, diving support and café operations.

  • Barista experience is an advantage! But not essential.

  • Golf experience/knowledge is a bonus, but not essential as all training will be provided.

Experience in tourism, hospitality, attractions or other customer-facing environments would be an advantage.

Most importantly, we want someone who understands that being a leader means being prepared to do the work alongside your team, not just tell others what to do.

THE FUN STUFF — WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?

  • The opportunity to work at Taupō’s #1 must-do activity!

  • A varied role where you’re constantly meeting new people from all over the globe.

  • A supportive team environment where personality, initiative and a good sense of humour are welcome. We’re one big whānau!

  • A role that combines leadership, tourism, outdoor activities and hospitality.

  • A steady roster, with the opportunity for more hours during peak season.

  • Opportunity to cross-train amongst our other Taupō Moana Group Holdings businesses – Chris Jolly Outdoors and Taupō Parasail.

And yes, you’ll get to work somewhere people come to have fun! But behind every great customer experience is a team working hard to make it happen. We’re looking for someone who enjoys the fun side of the job while understanding the effort, organisation and attention to detail it takes to deliver that fun.

OUR VALUES

At Taupō Moana Group Holdings, we believe in creating memorable experiences for our guests while looking after our people and our environment.

We value manaakitanga — welcoming and caring for others — and tiaki — taking responsibility for looking after our site, our environment and the special place we operate in.

We want someone who shares these values, takes pride in their work and helps create a workplace where both staff and customers feel welcome.

READY TO TAKE A SWING?

If you’re an energetic, capable leader who enjoys a challenge, thrives in a busy environment and isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves, we’d love to hear from you.

Bring your leadership skills, your initiative and your sense of humour. We’ll bring the golf balls.
