Your new company

There are few New Zealand businesses quite like Whittaker’s.

Proudly family owned and New Zealand’s largest and most trusted chocolate manufacturer, Whittaker’s has built its reputation by doing things honestly and doing them well. Its belief that “best is always better” extends beyond its chocolate to the way its people work together, with family, quality and passion sitting at the heart of the business.

Find Recruitment is delighted to be exclusively partnering with Whittaker’s to find the next person to join their Finance team.

Your new role

This Financial Analyst position could be a lovely next step for someone who has developed good accounting foundations and is ready for more breadth, responsibility and room to grow.

You’ll be someone who genuinely enjoys the numbers. Analytical, curious and happy to roll up your sleeves, you won’t mind doing some of the grunt work that comes with building strong foundations. Reconciliations, investigating variances, working through data and getting the detail right will be just as important as the more interesting analysis that comes from it.

Working closely with the Financial Controller and wider Finance team, you’ll get exposure well beyond one narrow area of accounting. As you build confidence, you’ll gradually take on more across reporting, analysis, statutory accounts, tax, fixed assets, foreign currency and wider commercial finance.

You don’t need to arrive knowing everything. What matters is that you’re bright, grounded and willing to get stuck in. You’ll ask good questions, enjoy figuring things out and want to earn greater responsibility as you develop.

Responsibilities
  • Support the month end process and preparation of management reporting
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate movements and variances
  • Assist with expenditure analysis and provide useful financial insights
  • Assist with insurance administration and claims processes
  • Support annual statutory reporting and the external audit process
  • Assist with tax reviews, returns and supporting reconciliations
  • Maintain fixed asset records and support capital expenditure reporting
  • Gain exposure to treasury and foreign currency transactions
  • Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and cashflow planning activities
  • Build strong relationships across Finance and the wider business
  • Look for thoughtful ways to improve reporting, systems and financial processes
Requirements

We’re interested in meeting someone with good foundations and plenty of potential. You may be an Assistant Accountant ready to stretch yourself, or perhaps you’ve already gained some Financial Accountant or Analyst experience and are looking for somewhere you can continue to grow.

Ideally, you’ll bring:
  • A relevant qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
  • Some practical experience in financial reporting, analysis or management accounting
  • A naturally analytical mind and an interest in understanding the story behind the numbers
  • A willingness to get into the detail and take on the necessary grunt work
  • Confidence working with Excel and financial data
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in getting things right
  • Curiosity, initiative and a genuine appetite to learn
  • A grounded, collaborative style and the confidence to build relationships across the business
  • Ambition to grow
Experience with ERP systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, or exposure to manufacturing, would be useful, but it is not essential.

Perks and benefits
  • Join one of New Zealand’s most recognised and loved family owned businesses
  • Work closely with an experienced Financial Controller and supportive Finance team
  • Develop across a genuinely broad range of accounting and finance activities
  • Gain exposure to a large New Zealand manufacturing environment
  • Be part of a business where quality, family and passion genuinely matter
Benefits include base salary, Kiwisaver, free parking, subsidised gym membership and regular chocolate tasting!!

This feels like a role for someone at the beginning of a really good career. You’ll bring the foundations, care, curiosity and willingness to do the work. Whittaker’s will give you the environment to keep building from there.
