Senior Litigator/Family Lawyer

Location: Primarily based in Tauranga, and with the option to work in Te Puke

Experience Level: 7+ years’ NZ civil litigation and family law experience (we would consider less PQE for the right candidate)

Build your practice. Support your team. Enjoy life beyond work.

At BCH Law, we believe good legal advice should be straightforward, practical and easy to understand. We care about the people we work with – our clients and each other.

We are looking for an experienced lawyer to join our litigation and family law team. If you enjoy varied work, sharing your knowledge and helping clients navigate challenging times, we would love to meet you.

About the role

Working alongside our two litigation directors, you will manage your own matters, support the development of others and contribute to the team’s direction.

We are keen to hear from you,if you have experience in some or all of the following areas:

  • Family Law, including care of children, family violence, relationship property and PPPR matters;

  • Trust litigation;

  • Commercial litigation;

  • Civil litigation; and

  • Employment law.

We would welcome a conversation about your experience, interests and how you would like to develop your practice.

About you

You bring sound judgement, take ownership of your work and enjoy being part of a team. You will also:

  • Be driven and demonstrate capability to manage matters confidently from start to finish;

  • Have experience in supervising others, and you enjoy providing guidance and mentorship;

  • Must be able to run hearings on your own without supervision (although a litigation team is available to bounce ideas off)

  • Value honesty, compassion and respect in your dealings with clients and colleagues; and

  • Be interested in building client relationships, networking and contributing to BCH’s growth and community profile.

What we offer

We want BCH to be a place where people do good work, feel supported and have a voice. You can look forward to:

  • A genuine work-life balance – just ask our staff;

  • A competitive and fair salary;

  • A friendly team that shares knowledge and supports one another;

  • Opportunities to develop your practice and introduce new areas of work;

  • A voice in the firm’s strategic planning, with ideas for better ways of working welcomed;

  • Up-to-date technology; and

  • Perks including discounted legal work, a paid day off for your birthday, massages, regular but not demanding team catch-ups and access to a car park on a rotational basis.
