Family Law Solicitor (1–2 PQE)

As we're a small team, you'll be supervised directly and have real room to learn and grow. You'll gain experience across the full range of family law and make your own mark in the field.
About the role
We are looking for a junior lawyer with 1–2 years' post-qualification experience (PQE) to join our team. The role is varied and hands-on, and it suits someone who enjoys both the technical challenge of family law and the human side of practice.
You will work across the full range of family law matters, including:
Relationship property and trust property
Contracting out agreements
Separation agreements
Care of children and parenting disputes
Family violence proceedings
Paternity issues
Oranga Tamariki matters
Family Protection Act claims
PPPR and adoption
You will give strategic advice, draft complex Family Court documents, represent clients in court, mediations and negotiations, and work with a wide range of stakeholders.
You will also have the opportunity to:
build and manage your own client base
help grow the firm and raise its profile
support marketing initiatives and firm projects
manage your own files, with the principal lawyer supervising and supporting you
About you
You are a motivated and capable family lawyer who brings both legal skill and emotional intelligence to your work. You can work independently, and you do your best work in a team that is collaborative and supportive.
To be considered, you will have:
1–2 years' PQE
Family Court experience, including drafting Family Court documents and appearing in Family Court proceedings
A current New Zealand practising certificate
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Sound judgement and the ability to stay calm and empathetic when clients are under stress
