Lead where safety, operational complexity and leadership intersect.

When thousands of people rely on safe, reliable transport every day, effective safety leadership is more than a compliance obligation. It is fundamental to operational performance, public confidence and the wellbeing of employees and passengers.

This is an opportunity to shape the safety direction of a highly visible, safety-critical transport operation, combining strategic influence with practical operational leadership.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the Health and Safety function, provide independent advice and assurance and work alongside senior marine and transport leaders to strengthen risk ownership, critical controls and operational discipline.

What You Will Lead
  • Shape H&S strategy, governance and operational risk frameworks
  • Strengthen critical risk assessments, controls and assurance
  • Influence executive decisions and operational accountability
  • Lead regulatory relationships, incident learning and compliance
  • Develop H&S capability, systems and a high-performing team
You will work across marine operations, passenger transport, maintenance and engineering, ensuring safety requirements translate into practical actions that support reliable operations.

A particular priority will be lifting operational risk assessment capability, challenging assumptions, identifying gaps and ensuring critical controls are effective, understood and consistently applied.

What You Will Bring
  • Senior HS leadership in a safety-critical, regulated environment
  • Proven success improving H&S systems, governance and assurance
  • Strong operational risk assessment and critical control expertise
  • Confidence influencing Executives, Boards and regulatory bodies
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and professional H&S credentials
Experience within marine, passenger transport, aviation, rail, logistics, energy or another asset-intensive environment will be highly relevant.

Maritime experience would be advantageous, particularly knowledge of MOSS, MTOPs and Maritime Rules, but is not essential.

The Leadership Difference

You will bring the confidence to challenge, the judgement to know when to escalate and the ability to build trust across very different operational environments.

You understand that effective safety leadership is not about owning everyone else's risks. It is about creating the frameworks, capability and assurance that enable operational leaders to take responsibility and make better decisions.

You will be equally comfortable engaging with the Managing Director, regulators, vessel crews, drivers and maintenance teams, combining sound technical judgement with a practical, collaborative approach.

Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • Executive influence: Work directly with the Managing Director and senior leaders
  • Meaningful impact: Shape safety outcomes for employees and passengers
  • Operational variety: Lead across marine, transport and asset-intensive operations
  • Leadership opportunity: Develop a dedicated HS team and strengthen capability
  • Employee benefits: Ferry travel privileges, wellbeing support and access to discounts
This is an opportunity for a senior Health and Safety leader who enjoys complexity, values operational credibility and wants to make a tangible difference in a business that connects people and communities.
