Property Compliance Australia | In-House Development Team

Build technology that makes a real difference.

Property Compliance Australia (PCA) is a leading provider of smoke alarm and property safety compliance services, supporting real estate agencies, property managers and tenants across Australia and New Zealand.

We're expanding our in-house development team and looking for a capable, solutions-focused Full Stack Developer who enjoys solving complex business problems, building reliable applications and seeing their work make a tangible impact.

This isn't a role where you'll be endlessly building websites or working on projects that never see the light of day. You'll help develop and improve the systems our people and clients rely on every day.

The Role

You'll join our growing in-house development team, working closely with our Head of Engineering and a Junior Developer to build, maintain and improve the technology that powers PCA's operations.

You'll collaborate directly with our Head of Engineering on technical direction, solution design and development priorities, while also supporting and sharing knowledge with our Junior Developer.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of opportunity to take ownership of projects, contribute to technical decisions and help shape the ongoing development of our platforms.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Full stack development – design, build and maintain applications using PHP, ReactJS and MySQL.

  • Develop business-critical platforms – enhance our internal management systems, customer-facing applications and mobile-first technician inspection tools.

  • Build integrations – develop and maintain RESTful API integrations with property management platforms, payment systems, telecommunications and other third-party services.

  • Improve and automate workflows – identify inefficiencies and develop practical solutions that reduce manual work and improve operational performance.

  • Solve complex problems – investigate bugs, troubleshoot issues and improve the performance, reliability and usability of existing systems.

  • Design technical solutions – translate business requirements into clear, maintainable technical solutions, including specifications and diagrams where appropriate.

  • Optimise and scale – improve application performance, database efficiency, security and system reliability as the business grows.

  • Collaborate across the business – work closely with other developers, management and operational teams to deliver meaningful improvements.

  • Own your work – take responsibility for features from initial planning through to deployment, documentation and ongoing support.

  • Collaborate and share knowledge – work alongside our Head of Engineering and Junior Developer, contributing to code reviews, technical discussions, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who combines strong technical skills with practical problem-solving ability.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven commercial experience developing applications with PHP, ReactJS and MySQL.

  • Strong understanding of JavaScript, HTML, CSS and modern front-end development practices.

  • Experience designing, developing and maintaining RESTful APIs and third-party integrations.

  • Solid understanding of relational databases, SQL queries and database optimisation.

  • Experience using Git, version control and collaborative development workflows.

  • Confidence working with established codebases, including debugging, refactoring and improving existing functionality.

  • Understanding of application security, performance and maintainable software architecture.

  • Ability to gather requirements, plan solutions and communicate technical concepts clearly.

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

  • A practical mindset focused on delivering reliable solutions rather than unnecessary complexity.

Highly regarded, but not essential:

  • Experience developing Progressive Web Applications (PWAs) or mobile-first applications.

  • Experience with scheduling, logistics, mapping or workflow management systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines and automated testing.

  • Experience integrating with external SaaS platforms or working with complex API ecosystems.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and modern development workflows.

  • Background in prop-tech, field services, compliance or other operationally complex industries.

You don't need to tick every box. We're more interested in finding someone with strong fundamentals, initiative and the ability to learn and adapt.

Why Join PCA?

Your work will actually be used.

At PCA, our development team isn't disconnected from the business. The systems you build and improve directly influence how our teams operate and how we deliver services to our customers.

You'll have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, contribute ideas and influence how our technology evolves.

What makes this opportunity different:

  • Meaningful projects – work on applications supporting a large and growing property compliance operation across Australia and New Zealand.

  • Real ownership – have input into technical decisions and take responsibility for delivering solutions.

  • Variety and challenge – work across internal platforms, mobile applications, APIs, scheduling, automation and business process improvements.

  • Direct impact – see the results of your work in day-to-day operations.

  • Room to innovate – contribute ideas, challenge existing processes and help shape our technology as the business grows.

  • Collaborative team – work alongside people who understand the business and are invested in building better systems.

Perks & Benefits

  • Birthday leave – enjoy an additional day off to celebrate your birthday.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) – confidential support for you and your family.

  • Regular team social events – enjoy a friendly, supportive workplace and opportunities to connect with colleagues.
