The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity for an experienced Import/Export Manager to take ownership of freight operations within an established logistics and freight forwarding business.
Reporting to the Managing Director, this role combines day-to-day operational oversight with team leadership, regulatory compliance and continuous improvement. You'll be responsible for ensuring the efficient movement of freight, maintaining strong relationships with service providers and delivering consistently high standards of customer service.
This position will suit someone who understands the complexities of international freight forwarding, enjoys solving operational challenges and has the confidence to lead a team in a busy, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee international and domestic import/export operations, ensuring freight moves efficiently and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Lead and support the customer service and operations team, providing guidance, training and effective resource planning.
Manage relationships with shipping lines, transport providers, customs brokers and overseas agents.
Ensure compliance with NZ Customs, MPI, biosecurity and international shipping requirements.
Monitor freight costs, container movements, operational performance and billing accuracy.
Drive process improvements, maintain standard operating procedures and optimise the use of CargoWise and other freight management systems.
About You
We're seeking an experienced freight forwarding professional with strong operational knowledge, sound commercial judgement and a practical leadership style.
Ideally, you'll bring:
Proven experience in import/export operations, freight forwarding or international logistics.
Strong knowledge of customs clearance, shipping documentation and NZ regulatory requirements.
Experience leading or supervising an operations or customer service team.
Proficiency in CargoWise, Excel and relevant freight or port management systems.
Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
A proactive approach to improving processes, managing costs and maintaining service standards.
You'll be comfortable balancing competing priorities, supporting your team and taking ownership of operational challenges as they arise.
