BONZ is one of New Zealand’s longest-standing luxury apparel brands, crafting premium shearling garments, knitwear, leather goods, and homewares since 1972.
Our products are made in our Invercargill factory using high-quality natural materials, and our Queenstown store is a flagship destination for local and international customers seeking luxury New Zealand design, craftsmanship, and service.
By the end of November we are opening a pop-up store on the international airside High Street at Auckland Airport. The pop-up runs to the end of April 2027, and both BONZ and Auckland Airport intend to extend it if the store trades well.
We are looking for an experienced Store Manager to open and run the new store.
This role would suit someone who has managed a luxury or premium retail store, sells well themselves, and can bring a new team together quickly in a fast-moving airport environment.
About the Role
This is a full-time role based airside at the international terminal. It is fixed term to 30 April 2027 to match the pop-up, but that is where we start, not where we expect to finish. If the store trades well, we will extend, and the role will become permanent.
You will lead a team of seven, set the weekly roster against the airport’s flight schedule, look after the store’s reporting to Auckland Airport, and sell. This is a floor role, not an office one.
The store trades 4:30am to 10:30pm, seven days, so the team works a seven-day roster including weekends and public holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Open and set up the new store with the BONZ team, then run it day to day
Lead, train and roster a team of seven: an Assistant Store Manager, four full-time Sales Consultants (two of them keyholders) and two part-timers
Deliver high-quality, personalised service to international travellers and lead by example on the floor
Meet and exceed store sales targets and manage individual performance
Prepare the monthly sales statement and other reporting required by Auckland Airport, and work with the airport’s retail operations team
Maintain store presentation, visual merchandising and stock accuracy to BONZ standards
Manage cash, POS and end-of-day procedures, and keep the store compliant with airport operating rules
Skills and Experience
Proven experience managing a luxury, premium or high-volume retail store
A strong personal sales record and a relationship-based selling style
Experience building and leading a small team, including rostering
Excellent spoken and written English; Mandarin or another Asian language is an advantage
Confident, polished and professional, and calm when the terminal is busy
Comfortable with POS systems, rostering and standard computer software, including email, Word and Excel
Able to pass the security check for an Auckland Airport ID card, and have the right to work in New Zealand
Employment Details
Full-time, fixed term to 30 April 2027 to match the pop-up, becoming permanent if the store trades well and we extend
Minimum 40 hours per week, with hours we can work around you
Hourly rate: $36-40 per hour, depending on experience
Commission and performance-based incentives
What We Offer
The chance to open and run a new store for a well-established New Zealand luxury brand
Full product and brand training
A new team of your own in one of the country’s highest-traffic retail locations
The opportunity to work with high-quality New Zealand-made products
If you would like to be considered for this role, please apply with your CV and a brief cover note outlining the stores you have run.
