Job Overview
The purpose of the role is to support growth within the company, assist existing clients while continuing to build relationships and new business across existing and future projects.
We are seeking a hybrid Technical Sales Engineer focused approximately 70% on technical engineering support and solutions design, and 30% dedicated to commercial sales activities.
Working across New Zealand's North Island and top of South Island, with an established customer base, the successful candidate will partner with existing clients to understand their technical requirements. You will provide engineering guidance and recommend suitable products and solutions from GLYN's supplier network.
The role is relationship-driven rather than heavily focused on new business development, with sales opportunities generated primarily through existing customers, enquiries, and supplier-led initiatives.
We are therefore seeking a commercially minded Electronics or Mechatronics Engineer who has successfully transitioned into a customer-facing technical sales role. The ideal candidate will combine strong engineering knowledge with the ability to build trusted relationships, identify opportunities, and support customers throughout the design and product selection process.

Proven experience within the electronics, semiconductor, embedded systems, automation, or component distribution sector.
Previous experience in a Technical Sales Engineer, Field Applications Engineer (FAE), Applications Engineer, Product Specialist, or Technical Account Manager position.
Strong understanding of electronic components, semiconductors, sensors, embedded systems, power management, or related technologies.
Ability to engage confidently with Design Engineers, R&D teams, Product Developers, and Procurement stakeholders.
Demonstrated commercial experience identifying opportunities, developing customer relationships, and growing revenue.
Technical Requirements
Ability to understand and interpret customer technical requirements.
Experience supporting product selection, design integration, and technical solution development.
Comfortable reviewing schematics, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
Ability to act as the bridge between engineering teams and commercial stakeholders.
Experience providing technical presentations, product demonstrations, and application support.
Commercial Requirements
Proven experience managing customer accounts and developing new business opportunities.
Ability to build long-term relationships with OEMs, manufacturers, system integrators, and engineering customers.
Experience identifying design-win opportunities and supporting customers throughout the product lifecycle.
