Legal Secretary – Family Law | South Auckland
Work closer to home in South Auckland while joining a modern, progressive firm where you can become more involved in the files and continue building your family law knowledge.
Are you an experienced Legal Secretary who would love to work closer to home, without compromising on the quality of the firm or the work?
This is a lovely opportunity to join an established family law team, supporting an approachable Partner and two Solicitors across a broad mix of family law and Legal Aid matters. You'll have the opportunity to become more involved in the files, build your family law knowledge and take on greater responsibility over time.
About the Role
No two days will be quite the same in this role. The team handles a broad mix of family law matters, including Legal Aid work, and you’ll be supporting them across areas such as:
Care of children and guardianship matters
Family violence and protection orders
Relationship property and separation matters
Contracting out agreements
Child support and spousal maintenance
PPPR applications
Family Court proceedings
Legal Aid matters
The role would suit someone who is confident in their legal secretarial skills, enjoys building relationships with clients and would like to become more involved in the files rather than sitting purely on the administrative side.
Depending on your experience, there will also be opportunities to assist with drafting straightforward legal documentation, including affidavits, and to continue developing your family law knowledge.
Your responsibilities will include:
Diary management and management of court dates
Client liaison, including triaging clients when they initially contact the team
Typing, formatting and amending legal documents
Assisting with drafting documentation
Preparing court bundles
Administration relating to Legal Aid applications
Billing
About You
Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, Legal PA or Legal Executive within a New Zealand law firm is required.
Family law experience and knowledge of the Legal Aid process is preferred but it isn’t essential if you have strong legal secretarial experience in another area of law and a real interest in developing your knowledge within family law.
You’ll be organised, proactive and confident managing a busy workload, with good attention to detail and a warm, professional approach with clients. Just as importantly, you’ll enjoy being part of a team and take pride in providing a high standard of support.
About the Firm
This firm has a relaxed, social and professional culture where people get along and support one another.
The Partner is organised, approachable and happy to encourage you to take on more responsibility over time if you would like to. The firm also has modern systems, excellent technology and strong precedents, with a focus on paperless working.
You’ll enjoy:
A competitive salary with KiwiSaver paid on top
Annual salary reviews
Free staff parking
Some flexibility around start and finish times
Working from home on an as-needed basis, with the option of one day per week from home potentially considered
Excellent training and development
A supportive team who will encourage you to build your skills
A strong work-life balance
The chance to become more involved in the files over time
I have placed a number of people within this firm over the years and know the team well. They are great people to work with, and the firm has created a supportive and transparent environment where staff are trusted and valued.
