Work Visa required:  All applicants will be required to provide proof of their eligibility to work in New Zealand.

The Role and Organisation:

Where Safety isn’t built behind a desk.  It is built through people

If you are the kind of safety professional who would rather be out talking with operators and understanding their challenges - helping them make better decisions, this role deserves your attention.

Based at a well-established hard-rock quarry in Lower Hutt, you will partner with operational leaders and frontline teams to strengthen safety culture, improve critical risk management and make a genuine difference to how work gets done.

This is a hands-on, relationship-driven role where your ability to connect, influence and constructively challenge will be just as important as your technical knowledge.

What You Will Do
Reporting to the National Health & Safety Manager, you will take ownership of practical Health & Safety support at the main quarry, with additional involvement at a smaller one.

You will work closely with Quarry Managers, supervisors, contractors and frontline employees to:
  • Coach leaders and operators to recognise and manage critical risks
  • Influence everyday safety behaviours through genuine engagement
  • Support investigations, risk assessments and critical control checks
  • Strengthen contractor safety, worker participation and assurance
  • Turn lessons learned into practical, sustainable improvements
What You Will Bring
You'll understand that effective safety isn't about telling people what to do. It's about building trust, asking good questions and helping others take ownership.

We are looking for:
  • Practical Health & Safety experience in quarrying, construction or heavy industry
  • Strong coaching, relationship-building and influencing skills
  • Confidence with investigations, risk assessments and critical risks
  • Sound knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation
  • Relevant tertiary qualification and a full NZ Driver Licence
Previous quarrying or extractives experience would be valuable, but it is not essential. We're equally interested in candidates from civil construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining and other high-risk operational environments.

Why Consider This Role?
This is an established quarry with a long-term future and ongoing investment. With changes across the operational team, there's an opportunity to work alongside leaders to strengthen expectations, improve consistency and build a more proactive safety culture.

You will enjoy:
  • Genuine operational ownership and visible influence on site
  • A full-use company vehicle as part of the package
  • The opportunity to work closely with experienced Health & Safety leadership
  • A varied, high-risk environment where practical thinking is valued
  • The satisfaction of seeing your influence translate into safer decisions
Ready to Make Your Mark?
You don't need to be the loudest person in the room or have all the answers.

You do need to be approachable, confident, curious and comfortable having the conversations that matter.

If you enjoy working alongside operational people, understand the realities of high-risk environments and know how to influence without creating friction, we'd welcome a conversation.

How to apply
If you meet the above criteria, we welcome your application including your CV and cover letter. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] quoting reference #1694584.

There are no visa/sponsorship opportunities available with this role. This is a permanent position, therefore only applicants with full, valid, permanent working rights will be considered.
