Associate or Senior Associate - 5+ PQE

High-quality, varied litigation work with genuine work-life balance.

Join a well-established, mid-sized Auckland CBD law firm offering a modern, high-performing environment and a culture that values life outside the office. This is an ideal opportunity to skip the large law firm setup while staying exposed to complex, interesting litigation matters, leading dispute resolution cases, mentoring juniors, and developing into a leadership role in the firm.

What you’ll be doing

Work across a varied mix of civil, commercial and construction disputes, helping clients navigate contentious matters from early advice and negotiations through to formal proceedings.

The practice spans matters such as (but not only):

  • Construction and building disputes,

  • Property disputes

  • Commercial debt recovery and insolvency

  • Partnership and shareholder disputes

  • Insurance disputes,

  • Corporate and incorporated society disputes

  • Trusts and estates matters

You’ll help assess the merits of claims, develop case strategy, prepare pleadings and evidence, and progress matters towards negotiated settlements or hearings. Depending on your experience and the matter, your work could include mediation, arbitration, court appearances, and close collaboration with senior lawyers or partners.

About you

This role suits an NZ-qualified lawyer with 5+ years' PQE and a background in civil, commercial, and/or construction litigation, plus excellent drafting and analytical skills and confidence managing matters and client relationships. A practical, commercially minded approach to resolving disputes is essential.

If you have slightly less PQE than stated but have an established, strong litigation background, you are still encouraged to apply, as the PQE set for this role isn't set in stone. The person's capability and fit for the team matter more.
