About the role
This is a brand-new role for a National Business Development Manager with a real hunger and drive to talk to a lot of customers, and to win new ones. You'll spend most of your day out and about, in front of people, tracking down opportunities with NEW customers: organisations that should be working with us but aren't yet. You'll find the right people, start the conversation, understand their project and secure the work, then stay across those customers for the long term so the first project leads to the next. You'll be based in Wellington and report directly to our Group CEO. Your mandate is to drive new business with Wellington-based organisations, and to support and drive new business in our other regions, working through the Regional Managers and Account Managers based there. Expect to spend 1 to 2 days a month away from Wellington in the medium term.
Key responsibilities
Spend the majority of your week out of the office, meeting prospective customers face to face
Build a target list, starting with Wellington-based organisations in government and the private sector, find the decision-makers, and turn first conversations into meetings and opportunities to quote
Understand each customer's project: what they need, and how it will be scoped, priced and delivered
Follow up every proposal, negotiate and close the work
Represent everything we do as one business: infrastructure, Wi-Fi and cabling, security and technology
Support and drive new business in our other regions alongside the Regional Managers and Account Managers there, spending 1 to 2 days a month away from Wellington
Hand each new customer to the right Account Manager for day-to-day management, while you keep senior relationships warm and spot the next project, keeping the ongoing commission tail.
Record every contact, meeting and opportunity in Sniper, our in-house CRM system, we also use Monday.com
About you
A proven track record as a hunter: winning new customers and new business, not just managing existing accounts
An understanding of how infrastructure projects work, ideally from a background in Wi-Fi and cabling, security or the wider technology sector. Relationship building is key, but a background in what we do, would be a logical advantage to you and our customers.
The confidence to approach senior people in government and private-sector organisations, and get to the table, our customers are busy, and respond well to people to offer them a point of difference and a commercial advantage, which with our skill, scale, and experiece, we sure do
Strong commercial and financial literacy; you're comfortable with numbers, margins and pipelines
Superb communication and negotiation skills, a self-driven, organised approach and disciplined CRM habits
A full driver's licence and willingness to spend 1 to 2 days a month in other regions
Benefits
A competitive base salary
Uncapped commission on the projects you secure, wherever in New Zealand you secure them
A commission tail on ongoing work from the customers you bring in, so you share in the long-term value you create
A brand-new role with real impact, a Wellington CBD fringe base, career development and a great team culture
