Roundhill is a family-friendly ski area above Lake Tekapo with one of the best views in New Zealand skiing – wide, sunny slopes, a loyal crew of regulars, and the Heritage Express, the longest and steepest rope tow in the world.

We're looking for a hands-on Assistant Operations Manager to join the team for a year-round position. You'll keep our lifts running safely, help make snow when the weather lets us, and be the management team's right hand across day-to-day operations.

The role

You'll work alongside the management team on all aspects of lift maintenance, diagnosing and repairing faults as they come up so the lifts open on time and stay open. When conditions allow, you'll be on the snowmaking system. The rest of the time you'll be helping run the mountain – supervising lift operators, keeping machinery in good order and lending a hand wherever the day needs it.

This is a position of responsibility. You'll be expected to help supervise other operations staff, make calls under pressure, and be the person people look to when something stops working.

Our lifts

All our main lifts are electrically driven with modern control and safety systems:

•      Two Doppelmayr/Garaventa T-Bars

•      A Doppelmayr Platter

•      The Heritage Express Rope Tow

What you'll be doing

•      Maintaining the lifts with the management team, and diagnosing and repairing any faults

•      Supervising lift operators and helping with the safe opening and running of all lifts and facilities

•      Making snow whenever conditions allow

•      Servicing and maintaining snowmaking equipment to specification

•      Operating company vehicles, ATVs and snowmobiles safely

•      Reporting machinery problems or damage to management straight away

•      Helping with summer maintenance on lifts and machinery

•      Supporting the supervision of other operations staff

About you

•      At least two seasons in ski area maintenance and/or snowmaking, or a strong industrial electrical or mechanical background

•      You can diagnose and solve problems quickly, often in cold, windy or time-critical situations

•      You work well in a small team and stay calm under pressure

•      You're comfortable working at heights

•      You're a competent skier or snowboarder
