Due to continued growth at Blair Boats, we’re looking for a highly skilled boat builder to join our small, experienced team. If you take real pride in precise, high-quality work and enjoy tackling varied projects, we’d like to hear from you.
This is a full-time role, working 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday.
About Blair Boats
Blair Boats is a family-owned boatbuilding yard in Oromahoe, just south of Kerikeri. We specialise in high-end custom builds, refits and restorations, with craftsmanship and attention to detail at the heart of everything we do.
We’ve undertaken a number of new builds in recent months, including a 106-foot high-performance rowing skiff and we’re currently nearing completion of a custom 36-foot picnic boat. Alongside these builds, our eye for detail on the restoration of classic boats has seen a steady pipeline of premium refit work and means there’s always something different underway.
You’ll work in a well-equipped workshop with a team of skilled boat builders. We’re growing while staying focused on quality, and offer a professional, hands-on environment where good work is valued.
What you’ll be doing
Building with epoxy composites and fibreglass
Carrying out structural repairs and custom modifications
Working with timber, including cabinetry and fine finishing
Preparing surfaces and assisting with painting
Completing plumbing and other practical workshop tasks
Working with the team to keep projects moving and maintain a high standard of finish
What you’ll bring
Strong experience as a boat builder, or equivalent skills in a related trade such as cabinetmaking or carpentry
High standards of workmanship and a sharp eye for detail
Confidence working with timber, composites or both
The ability to work independently and contribute positively to a small, professional team
A reliable, practical approach and willingness to take ownership of your work
What we offer
The chance to work on high-end, custom boats and varied projects
A supportive culture in a close-knit team
A collaborative approach to projects
A great lifestyle location in the Bay of Islands
