About the role

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Therapy Assistant / Therapy Aide to join our multidisciplinary team — including Occupational Therapists (OTs), Physiotherapists (PTs), and Speech-Language Therapists (SLTs) — across the North Shore, Milldale, and Hibiscus Coast regions. In this rewarding role, you will work closely with the team to support students with high or complex learning, physical, and sensory needs within a specialist school environment. Your mission will be to help bridge the gap between clinical therapy goals and daily educational routines, ensuring every student has the support they need to participate, grow, and thrive.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver individual and small-group therapy protocols designed by OTs, PTs, and SLTs (e.g., sensory regulation routines, fine/gross motor circuits, and communication board usage).

  • Support classroom teachers and learning assistants to adapt educational activities so students can actively participate in learning and play.

  • Safely assist students with physical transitions, transfers, positioning in specialized seating, and the safe use of walking or standing frames.

  • Assist students with daily personal care routines (feeding, toileting, changing) while safely promoting their personal independence goals.

  • Set up, clean, and maintain specialized low-tech equipment, assistive technologies, and sensory tools used by the students.

  • Track daily progress, record objective observations regarding student engagement or behavioural changes, and feedback accurate data to supervising therapists for IEP (Individual Education Plan) reviews.

About you

  • A New Zealand Register Level 2 or 3 qualification (or Australian AQF Certificate II or III) in Education Support, Health and Wellbeing, or a related discipline.

  • A minimum of 1 year of formal experience working within the special needs or disability sector (experience with school-aged children is highly preferred).

  • A valid, clean New Zealand Driver Licence (Class 1) and access to a reliable vehicle, as travel between sites from the North Shore up to Milldale/Hibiscus Coast may be required.

  • Employment is strictly subject to a clean Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check and successful safety vetting under the Children's Act 2014.

  • Valid New Zealand work rights or a valid visa pathway.

Benefits

  • A guaranteed minimum of 38 hours of work per week, providing stable and predictable income.

  • A highly competitive pay scale ranging from $40.00 to $43.00 per hour, reflecting the specialist nature of this role.

  • A supportive, collaborative, and professional multidisciplinary team environment.
