Hamilton | Permanent, Full-time | 37.5 hours per week

Are you a natural connector, confident communicator and someone who likes making things happen?

We’re looking for a Community Fundraising & Events Specialist to join our team in Hamilton and help grow the Cancer Society’s community connections, fundraising and engagement across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.

This is a varied role that combines getting out and about in our communities with the planning, coordination and follow-through needed back at the desk.

You’ll be talking with businesses, schools, community groups, volunteers and supporters, confidently presenting to groups, identifying opportunities and turning good ideas into action.

You’ll also help bring some of our biggest fundraising campaigns and events to life, including Daffodil Day and Relay For Life.

Our kaupapa

The Cancer Society’s vision is to work together for a future free from cancer. We’re here for everyone, no matter what cancer, and our mission is to reduce the incidence and impact of cancer across Aotearoa.

Our work is founded on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We recognise Māori as Tangata Whenua and are committed to addressing inequities experienced by Māori, Pasifika and other communities disproportionately impacted by cancer.

What you’ll be doing

No two weeks will look quite the same. You’ll be:

  • Building relationships with businesses, schools, community groups and supporters.

  • Planning and delivering fundraising events and campaigns, including coordinating volunteers, suppliers, budgets and logistics.

  • Supporting people and organisations with their fundraising activities.

  • Representing the Cancer Society at presentations, events and networking opportunities.

  • Identifying new opportunities to grow fundraising, participation and community connections.

  • Managing the administration, systems, reporting and follow-up that keeps everything on track.

About you

You’ll be a confident go-getter who enjoys connecting with people and making things happen. You’ll be comfortable speaking to groups, taking the initiative and working independently, while also being organised enough to follow things through.

You’ll bring:

  • A relevant degree-level qualification or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Experience in events, fundraising, community engagement, relationship management or a related area.

  • Strong communication and public speaking skills.

  • Great organisation, initiative and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

  • Confidence using systems and managing reporting and administration.

  • A current, clean full New Zealand driver licence.

  • Flexibility to travel and work some evenings and weekends when required.

The practical stuff

This is a permanent, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, based in Hamilton.

The role involves travel throughout the Waikato and Bay of Plenty and a mix of community-based activity and office-based planning and coordination. Some evening and weekend work will be required, particularly around major fundraising events and campaigns.
