AI and Business Transformation Lead

Bathurst NSW + hybrid | Initial 6-month contract | Approx. 4 days per week | $800–$900 per day + GST

Help us put AI to work – practically

Truflo Pumps is an Australian-owned manufacturer and supplier of dewatering pumping systems to the mining and industrial sectors, headquartered in Bathurst.

We believe AI and automation can make a real difference to how we work. We are not interested in technology for its own sake. We want practical improvements that save time, reduce errors, improve customer service and make it easier for our people to do their jobs.

We are seeking an experienced AI and Business Transformation Lead for an initial six-month contract. You will work with our Director, management team and employees to understand how work is done today, identify the opportunities worth pursuing, and turn the best ideas into working solutions.

This is a hands-on business-improvement role, not a pure IT, software-development or strategy position.

The opportunity

You will review processes across the whole business, including sales and marketing, quoting, engineering and document control, purchasing, production, testing and quality, stores and spare parts, repairs and after-sales, technical support, Aquaflo Hire, People & Culture, administration and accounts.

Sometimes the right answer will be AI. Other times it will be workflow automation, better use of an existing system, cleaner data or a simpler process. We want someone who knows the difference.

What you will be doing

•     Meeting managers and employees to understand processes, pain points and manual workarounds

•     Mapping end-to-end workflows and handovers between teams and sites

•     Building a prioritised opportunity register based on value, cost, complexity and risk

•     Turning operational problems into practical solutions, and building smaller solutions yourself where it makes sense

•     Running pilots through to implementation, measurement, training and handover

•     Improving the data, file and document foundations behind priority projects

•     Working with our IT provider, system vendors, web developer and specialist suppliers

•     Developing practical AI governance and acceptable-use guidelines

•     Training each team in AI use relevant to their area and supporting internal AI champions

•     Preparing a 12-month roadmap for future investment

Where you might start

Areas we would like assessed include quotation and dormant-customer follow-up, quote preparation, spare-parts identification, technical information and engineering document searches, production and management reporting, purchasing, testing and quality documentation, service history, website enquiries, hire reporting and HR administration. These are areas for assessment, not fixed projects.

Within your first four to six weeks, we would expect an initial opportunity register, identified quick wins, a recommended roadmap and at least one practical improvement or pilot underway. We want working improvements, not just a strategy report.

About you

You may come from business transformation, operational improvement, consulting, business analysis, ERP or CRM implementation, workflow automation or applied AI. You will bring:

•     Proven delivery of AI, automation or digital-improvement projects in an operating business

•     Strong process-mapping, business-analysis and stakeholder-engagement skills

•     Practical experience with generative AI, AI agents, workflow automation and integrations (e.g. Microsoft Copilot, Power Automate, ChatGPT, Claude, Zapier, Make or n8n)

•     The ability to prototype or build smaller solutions yourself

•     A track record of taking projects beyond the demo and into everyday use

•     Sound commercial judgement and credible business cases

•     Experience training employees and supporting change

•     An understanding of privacy, data security and responsible AI use

•     The confidence to challenge inefficient processes constructively, and to communicate well with everyone from the workshop floor to the owners

Experience in manufacturing, engineering, mining services, industrial equipment, distribution or field service will be highly regarded. We are more interested in completed work and measurable results than AI terminology.

Location and working arrangement

The role is centred on our Bathurst head office, where most of our management, engineering, production and business systems are based. We welcome candidates from Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Lithgow, Orange and the wider Central West.

•     Approximately 50% onsite in Bathurst and 50% remote, with onsite days grouped together

•     More time onsite during the first four to six weeks

•     Planned visits to our Coolum (QLD) site

•     Reasonable approved travel and accommodation expenses covered

The contract

•     Initial six-month contractor engagement, approximately four days per week (flexibility by agreement)

•     $800–$900 per day + GST, depending on experience

•     Direct access to the Director and management team

•     Potential to extend if the program delivers measurable value

How to apply

Please submit your resume and a short cover letter that tells us:

•     About an AI or automation improvement you delivered, your personal role in it and the measurable result

•     How you decide whether AI is the right solution

•     Your relevant industry experience

•     Your availability to work regularly from Bathurst

Applicants must have Australian working rights.
