Claymark is a leading New Zealand manufacturer and exporter of premium pine products, with operations across the North Island. Our Thames site plays a key role in processing and preparing timber for further manufacturing.
We’re currently looking for a General Hand to join our Drymill Team — a hands-on role that supports the flow of timber through our operation and contributes to the quality of our finished product.
About the Role:
This role is responsible for de-filleting kiln-dried timber and rebuilding packs into block-stack packets ready for further processing. You’ll be working as part of a small, tight-knit team, supporting each other to keep production running smoothly.
This is a physical role with early starts, best suited to someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in doing things properly.
Typical duties include:
Sort, stack and strap and wrap packets
Feed in or tail out timber as directed by the Drymill Supervisor to assist in the production of finished product.
Stack finished product in preparation for packaging as directed by the Drymill Supervisor.
Ensure that all production processes are performed in a manner that contributes to the manufacture of high- grade timber products and complies with the company's health and safety policies and procedures
Meet all grade specification as required by the company
Shift pattern:
Monday to Thursday: 6:00am – 4:30pm
Friday: 6:00am – 12:00pm
Person Specifications:
We’re looking for someone who is reliable, turns up on time, and takes pride in doing a solid day’s work. You’ll be physically fit, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a hands-on role. Just as important is your ability to work well as part of a small team and maintain a consistent, quality-focused approach.
You’ll bring:
The ability to follow instructions and work to set processes and quality standards
A practical mindset with the ability to pick up new tasks quickly
Awareness of pace — able to keep up with production flow without compromising safety or quality
Basic problem awareness
Clear communication and the ability to work alongside others to get the job done
Previous experience in a sawmill or timber environment is an advantage, but not essential.
This role will suit someone who enjoys routine, takes satisfaction in consistent, hands-on work, and can stay focused while working at a steady pace across the day.
