AP Plant & Machinery is looking for an experienced Engineering Foreman to take a leading hand in our Gisborne workshop. Reporting to the Workshop Manager, you'll keep the floor running — allocating jobs, setting the pace, and staying on the tools yourself.

You'll be in amongst it: fabricating, fitting, problem-solving, and showing the younger crew how it's done.

APPM is a family-owned hydraulic, mechanical and engineering business serving forestry, agriculture, marine, transport and industrial customers right across the Tairāwhiti/East Coast with a mix of onsite repair work and design-build projects.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the engineering team on the floor day to day.

  • Staying hands-on across fabrication, welding, and general engineering tasks

  • Reading and working from engineering drawings and job specifications

  • Keeping an eye on quality — making sure work goes out right the first time

  • Keeping health and safety front and centre

  • Mentoring apprentices and junior staff, and passing on your trade knowledge

  • Keeping accurate job records, timesheets and progress notes

  • Working in with the Workshop Manager, parts team and other technicians to hit deadlines

  • Giving and taking feedback regularly

What You'll Bring

  • A relevant trade qualification

  • At least 5 years' hands-on trade experience, with time spent as a foreman or leading hand

  • Sound knowledge of workshop health and safety practices

  • The ability to read technical drawings and plan a job from start to finish

  • A current NZ driver's licence (Class 1 minimum)

  • NZ residency or a valid work visa

  • A practical, level-headed attitude and the ability to lead by example

  • No ego, no B.S, no politics

  • Your own basic tools (we'll sort the rest)

What We Offer

  • A secure, full-time role with a well-established local business

  • Varied, interesting work — no two days the same

  • A supportive management team will back you and grow you

  • The lifestyle that comes with living and working in Gisborne — surf, sun, and no traffic

  • Competitive pay reflecting your experience and what you bring to the team

Co-operation and collaboration matter here. APPM prides itself on a contented workplace where everyone works toward high-quality workmanship, meeting our customers' needs, and supporting each other. You'll be backed by — and will back up — the Workshop Manager, Directors, and the wider team.

Sound like you? We'd love to hear from you. Apply with your CV and a short cover letter telling us a bit about yourself.
