We’re looking for a Yard Manager who leads from the front to join a well-established scrap metal and recycling business in Penrose.
You’ll run the yard day to day, reporting to the Operations Manager and owner, and lead a team of around 10 including 2 supervisors. Around 80% of your day is hands-on in the yard.

- Health and safety: Own the safety culture. Improve processes, run inductions and training, and make sure everyone goes home safe.
- Your team: Build trust with your crew, keep morale high and hold everyone to a high standard.
- Yard flow: Keep trucks, customers and material moving efficiently.
- Customer service: Be the professional face of the yard for customers and suppliers.
- Leading loading, unloading and processing of scrap metal
- Identifying and grading incoming metals
- Rostering, task allocation and daily planning
- Acting as the key link between the yard and senior management
- Proven experience identifying and grading scrap metals (ferrous and non-ferrous) (essential)
- Supervisory or management experience in scrap metal, recycling or a similar metals environment
- Experience leading health and safety on site
- A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves attitude with great communication skills
- Full NZ Driver’s Licence (essential)
- Forklift licence and/or digger experience a bonus
- Monday to Friday: 7:00am - 5:00pm
- Every second Saturday: 6:00am - 12:00pm
- Approx. 50+ hours per week
- $85,000 - $95,000 based on experience, paid weekly
