Pivot HR is pleased to be partnering with Arohanui Hospice to recruit a new People & Culture Lead.

Arohanui Hospice is strengthening its leadership capability, workforce practices and the systems that support its people. This is a newly created role that will take ownership of the People & Culture function working alongside leaders across clinical services, retail, fundraising, volunteers and organisational support functions.

This is practical, relational and hands-on, with the opportunity to influence how people practices and leadership capability continue to develop across the organisation.

As a member of the Operations Management Group, you will work closely with the Director People & Operations and other senior leaders across Arohanui Hospice to:

  • provide trusted advice across employment relations and complex workplace matters

  • coach and support managers to lead their people confidently and consistently

  • strengthen recruitment, workforce systems and people practices

  • support organisational change and workforce planning

  • provide leadership and coordination across Health & Safety

  • lead and support the People & Culture team members

  • continue developing a practical, values-led and effective People & Culture function.

It’s a broad role. On any given day you might be coaching a manager through a challenging situation, managing an employment matter, improving a people process, designing or contributing to an organisational initiative or strengthening Health & Safety practices.

About you

You may already be leading a People & Culture function, or you could be an experienced Senior HR Advisor or HR Business Partner ready to step into a broader leadership role.

  • sound knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation and good practice

  • confidence managing complex and sensitive people matters

  • practical manager coaching and influencing skills

  • the ability to balance empathy with accountability

  • strong communication, judgement and relationship-building capability

  • the ability to work independently and operate across both strategic and operational matters

  • the confidence and capability to provide organisational leadership across Health & Safety.

Experience in healthcare, aged care, not-for-profit or another service-based environment would be useful, but it is not essential. More important is your ability to build trust, understand operational realities and provide practical, credible support.
