Serve as an undergraduate research assistant on the project: Cuban Exiles and the Cold War.

Dr. Chase is completing a manuscript about the transnational activism of Cuban Exiles during the Cold War. The book manuscript is currently under contract with the University of North Carolina Press. During academic year 2026-2027, Dr. Chase needs to complete two major tasks:

(1) undertake the final research about Cuba in the late 1980s and early 1990s to finish writing the epilogue to the book

(2) begin planning the dissemination and publicity program for the book after its release.

The research assistant will undertake two major tasks:

(1) help conduct research about the Cuban exile community in Miami in the 1990s, especially how exiles supported the human rights movement and other dissident groups within Cuba. This research will require doing online research with news databases, such as reviewing copies of the New York Times and other periodicals from the 1990s. It may occasionally require going to the New York Public Library to conduct research with physical periodicals. The student will write abstracts of the relevant articles and develop a detailed chronology.

(2) help conduct research about publicity and dissemination opportunities following publication of the book in late 2027. This will require doing online research to identify relevant websites, blogs, podcasts, and other platforms for dissemination. The student will compile an annotated list of these platforms.
