POU Limited was established through the relationship agreement between the Raahui Pookeka marae collective and Genesis. It is 100% owned by the local community surrounding Huntly Power Station, with an independent, commercially focused governance framework supporting the delivery of its contractual responsibilities to Genesis.
At its heart, POU Limited is about people and place. It creates employment opportunities, invests in the future of its community and supports its people to develop and reach their potential.
About the role
This is an opportunity to combine practical health and safety expertise with meaningful organisational and community impact.

What you'll be doing
Your responsibilities will include:

Working collaboratively with POU Limited and Genesis site leadership to support the safety of people onsite through clear, effective reporting and communication.
Leading incident investigations when required and ensuring corrective actions are followed through and closed within agreed timeframes.
Supporting the management of long-term absences resulting from incidents or injuries.
Maintaining health and safety systems, policies, procedures, registers and reporting staying current with legislation and best practice.
Undertaking safety observations, audits, training, safety meetings and toolbox meetings.
Developing, implementing and evaluating health and wellness programmes and initiatives.
Contributing to the Genesis Te Mata Tatariki Hauora – Safety and Wellness Committee.
Supporting continuous improvement across safety, efficiency and quality.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who can combine sound technical knowledge with the ability to build trust, influence behaviour and make safety relevant to people in their day-to-day work.
You'll bring:
A New Zealand Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety Management (Level 6), or equivalent.
At least two years' experience in a safety and wellness leadership role with strong incident investigation and reporting skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to influence and engage across all levels, uplifting safety culture and capability.
Sound problem-solving and decision-making capability.
Strong planning, coordination and time-management skills.
A process-driven approach and commitment to continuous improvement.
A high level of integrity and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
Knowledge and application of kaupapa Māori, tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, alongside a commitment to culturally safe practice.
A current full New Zealand driver licence.
Why POU Limited?
You'll join a Māori-owned organisation where health, wellbeing and safety are a priority and where the work has a strong connection to people, place and community.
For the right person, this role offers the opportunity to influence safety and wellness at both a practical and organisational level, working alongside leaders and teams to continually strengthen how things are done.
If you are an experienced health and safety practitioner who enjoys being visible, building relationships and turning good safety practice into everyday behaviour, we'd like to hear from you.
