EVENT AND WEDDING DUTY MANAGER - MAN O' WAR VINEYARDS – WAIHEKE ISLAND
SEASONAL ROLE - NOVEMBER 2026 THROUGH TO APRIL 2027
We’re looking for an experienced, warm and confident Event & Wedding Duty Manager to join our team at Man O’ War for the summer season November through to April.
Based at the Eastern end of Waiheke Island, you’ll help us deliver our busy season of weddings, celebrations and corporate events — working alongside an experienced Event Duty Manager and our wider events and hospitality team.
This is a hands-on event-day role rather than a wedding planning position. Our Events & Reservations team takes care of the bookings, planning, client communication and detailed run sheets beforehand. Your job is to take that plan and help bring it all together on the day.
If you’re already a strong hospitality Duty Manager and would love to step further into weddings and events, we’d love to hear from you too.
Why Man O’ War?
You’ll spend the summer working in one of Waiheke’s most unique event settings, delivering some pretty special days with a team that already knows the venue and our events well.
You’ll have the variety and energy of weddings and events, the security of guaranteed hours throughout the season, and the support of an experienced Event Duty Manager alongside you.
If you’re a great hospitality operator who enjoys leading a team, loves working with people and gets a kick out of seeing a brilliant event come together, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:
On an event day, you’ll be one of the key people making sure everything comes together as planned.
That includes:
Running weddings and events from set-up through to close
Working from detailed event run sheets and keeping the day on track
Acting as a key point of contact for couples, clients and suppliers on the day
Briefing, leading and supporting the event team
Coordinating closely with our kitchen, bar and venue teams
Keeping an eye on service, timings and guest experience throughout the event
Helping manage set-up, room transitions and pack-down
Responding calmly and confidently when plans change
Overseeing responsible service of alcohol and venue compliance
Making sure our clients can relax and enjoy their event knowing the details are being taken care of
Events naturally mean some weekends and evenings, and while our events finish by midnight at the latest, some shifts will finish around 1am once the venue has been closed down.
About you:
Wedding experience would be a bonus, but it isn’t essential.
We’re equally interested in hearing from experienced Restaurant or Hospitality Duty Managers who have the leadership skills and operational experience to make the move into events.
You’ll ideally be someone who:
Has previous hospitality, events or supervisory experience
Is confident leading a team and working alongside other managers
Is warm, professional and comfortable dealing directly with clients
Stays calm and practical when things get busy
Is organised, detail-focused and comfortable working from a run sheet
Has strong food and beverage service knowledge
Can think on your feet and solve problems without losing sight of the guest experience
Is hands-on and happy to jump in wherever the team needs you
Enjoys being part of a close-knit team
Mandatory attributes:
Excellent written and oral English
Ability to reside, or relocate, to Waiheke Island, New Zealand
Current NZ Work Visa essential
Required to work a minimum of 32 hours per week
Current DM certificate and LCQ qualification
Full, valid, NZ Drivers Licence
Preferred attributes:
First aid certificate
What's in it for you:
A wide range of opportunity for promotion and growth within the company and competitive salary package based on a daytime hour's operation.
Staff meals and drinks
