We’re looking for a proactive and solutions-focused Dispatcher to join our team. This is not a typical dispatch role. Alongside coordinating daily freight movements, you'll play a key role in managing customer bookings, liaising with drivers and customers, and ensuring freight is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time. About the Role
This is not your typical Dispatch role. Combining dispatch and booking coordination responsibilities, you'll play a key role in coordinating freight movements, managing customer bookings, and ensuring the efficient utilisation of fleet and resources across our Christchurch operation. You will be responsible for scheduling and dispatching vehicles, coordinating customer freight requirements, and maintaining strong communication with drivers, customers, and internal stakeholders.
In addition to freight dispatch activities, this role will also have responsibility for:
- Coordinating customer bookings and ensuring accurate entry into transport management systems.
- Managing timber dispatch operations, including scheduling, load planning, and customer service requirements.
- Monitoring and maintaining inventory accuracy, including stock control, reporting, and reconciliation activities.
- Optimising fleet utilisation while maintaining high service levels and minimising distribution costs.
- Identifying and resolving operational issues as they arise to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Building strong relationships with customers, drivers, and internal teams.
What We're Looking For:
- Previous experience in dispatching, transport coordination, or logistics operations.
- Experience in booking coordination and customer service.
- Inventory management or stock control experience.
- Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to remain calm and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong geographical knowledge of the South Island and New Zealand transport network.
- A process-driven approach and proficiency with Transport Management Systems, EROAD, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience in timber or bulk freight operations would be advantageous.
- A team-focused attitude with a commitment to continuous improvement.
