At Pavilion, the food is about flavour and doing simple things really well. Our kitchen is busy and the team is tight. We’re proud of what goes out on every plate. We’re now looking for a well-rounded Chef de Partie to join the crew and help us keep raising the bar.

The role

You’ll report to our Head Chef and work alongside the Sous Chef. You’ll run your own section and move around the kitchen as service needs. This role is very hands-on. We need someone who’s confident and quick on:

  • Pans: sauces, sautéing and à la minute cooking at pace

  • Fryers: clean, consistent and crisp, even in a full rush

  • Pizza: dough handling, stretching, topping and firing to spec

Day to day you’ll:

  • Run your section to a high, consistent standard, following recipes, specs and portion sizes

  • Prep before and during service so your section is always ready

  • Set up and pack down properly, and hand your section over fully set for the next day

  • Help with ordering and stock when needed

  • Keep your area clean and well maintained, and follow food safety and H&S standards

  • Support and train junior chefs, and help keep the kitchen culture positive and respectful

  • Work well with front of house to keep service running smoothly

About you

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a professional kitchen, with proven grill and open-fire cooking

  • A well-rounded cook who’s just as comfortable on pans, fryers and pizza

  • Calm, organised and fast under pressure

  • NZ Certificate in Cookery (Level 3 or 4) or equivalent (preferred)

  • Food safety training completed in the last 3 years (preferred)

  • A team player with a positive attitude who takes pride in the details

  • Reliable and flexible, and able to work weekends, evenings and public holidays

What’s in it for you

  • $30-$35 per hour, depending on experience

  • Full-time, 30+ weekly hours minimum

  • Staff meals and hospitality discounts

  • A chance to cook over real fire with a team that backs you

  • Training, development and room to step up

If you love cooking and want to be part of a team that executes great food, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now with your CV and a short cover letter telling us about your grill experience.
