Senior finance leadership role with genuine 2IC responsibility and influence.
Work closely with the CEO, senior leaders and Board in a respected primary healthcare group.
Lead the finance function, drive business performance and contribute to future growth.
Carefirst is a growing primary healthcare group providing general practice, urgent care, skin clinic, radiology and specialist services. We are focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while building a sustainable organisation that can continue to meet the health needs of our communities.
The opportunity
This is a key leadership opportunity for an experienced finance professional who brings strong technical accounting expertise, commercial judgement and the confidence to lead.
As our Finance & Performance Manager, you'll work closely with the CEO, senior leadership team and Board, providing trusted financial advice, driving business performance and helping shape the future direction of Carefirst.
Importantly, you'll be a key second-in-command within the leadership structure, someone we can rely on to take ownership, provide direction and keep things moving when needed.
You'll lead the finance function, overseeing group-wide financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cashflow and performance analysis across our multi-service healthcare environment. While you'll need to be comfortable understanding and working through the detail, your focus will be on leading the team, strengthening financial performance and turning information into meaningful business insights.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
Leading and developing the finance team, building capability, accountability and confidence.
Overseeing monthly financial and performance reporting across the Carefirst Group, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and meaningful insights.
Providing trusted financial advice and commercial insights to the CEO, senior leaders and Board.
Leading budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management and financial planning.
Analysing revenue, costs, workforce productivity, service performance and financial sustainability.
Identifying opportunities to improve business performance, operational efficiency and profitability.
Developing practical performance dashboards and reporting tools that support informed decision-making.
Strengthening financial controls, compliance, risk management and internal reporting processes.
Supporting business cases, investment decisions, growth opportunities and longer-term strategic planning.
Providing leadership, direction and continuity across the finance function when required.
A bit about you
First and foremost, you're a strong accountant with proven leadership experience. You know your numbers, understand what drives business performance and have the confidence to turn financial information into sound commercial advice.
You're someone others naturally turn to for guidance. You can make decisions, take ownership and provide a steady, reliable presence within a leadership team.
You'll be comfortable working alongside senior decision-makers, constructively challenging thinking and balancing the bigger picture with the technical detail when needed.
We're looking for someone who brings:
CA ANZ membership or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
At least five years' experience in management accounting, commercial finance, business performance or finance leadership.
Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to guide, develop and support a finance team.
Strong budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, reporting and analytical capability.
Sound commercial judgement and the confidence to make decisions and take ownership.
Experience presenting financial information and providing advice to senior leaders, Boards or governance groups.
Strong financial systems and technology skills, with an interest in improving reporting and business intelligence.
A collaborative, down-to-earth leadership style and the ability to build trusted relationships across the business.
Experience in primary healthcare, urgent care, radiology, multi-site services, shareholder-owned businesses or multi-entity organisations would be advantageous but is not essential.
Why join Carefirst?

Alongside a competitive salary package and great perks, there's genuine scope to grow your leadership career, with potential for future progression as the organisation continues to evolve.
