Senior CNC Machinist & Setter | Swiss • Mill-Turn • 5-Axis
About the Role
We're looking for experienced CNC Machinists who take pride in producing quality work and getting the job done right the first time.
Whether your experience is in mill-turn machining, Swiss machining, or multi-axis CNC milling, this is an opportunity to work on some of the most challenging precision-engineered components in the industry. You'll join a growing manufacturing business where skilled people genuinely make a difference. You'll work on technically challenging precision-engineered components where quality, repeatability and attention to detail are critical.
Much of our work involves complex geometries, demanding tolerances, and manufacturing challenges that require careful planning, technical skill, and disciplined execution.
This role is ideally suited to someone who is self-motivated and capable of working independently. You'll be trusted to find the information you need, make sound decisions, and take ownership of delivering results. We value initiative, but not shortcuts. Success in this role comes from applying experience, following robust processes, and consistently delivering quality work.
As a team of 30 people experiencing significant growth, we need people who understand that everyone contributes to the overall result. Success here requires more than technical capability. It requires a willingness to support the wider team, share knowledge, and help us build the systems, standards, and culture needed for the next stage of our growth.
Available Shifts
We currently have opportunities available on both day shift and night shift.
Day shift positions available
Night shift positions available
Night shift attracts an additional shift allowance
Permanent full-time positions
Key Responsibilities
Set up and run complex CNC machining jobs, ensuring components are produced safely, efficiently, and to specification
Take ownership of part quality, verifying that all work meets drawing requirements, tolerances, and customer expectations
Interpret engineering drawings, process documentation, and job instructions with confidence
Select and set tooling, workholding, fixtures, and machine parameters appropriate to the job
Validate first-off components and perform in-process inspection using appropriate measuring and inspection equipment to verify compliance with drawing and quality requirements
Monitor machine performance and production flow, identifying and resolving issues before they become bottlenecks
Understand the impact of tooling, offsets, and machining parameters on part quality and productivity, and confidently escalate programming or process issues when required
Manage multiple machines and competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail
Perform deburring and finishing activities as required to ensure parts leave your workstation in a customer-ready condition
Support less experienced team members through coaching, guidance, and sharing of knowledge
Work closely with programmers, quality personnel, and production leadership to achieve delivery commitments
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help establish best-practice machining standards across the workshop
What Success Looks Like
We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, works well within a team, consistently delivers quality results, and has the confidence to raise concerns early when something doesn't look right. You won't need someone standing over your shoulder every day. You'll be comfortable finding the information you need, making sound decisions, and taking ownership of your work while following established processes and standards.
You'll ideally bring:
Technical Experience
Typically 10+ years' experience as a CNC Machinist, including complex setups and tight-tolerance work
Experience with one or more of the following:
Mazak Integrex or similar mill-turn machining centres
Tornos or similar Swiss-type lathes
5-axis machining centres such as Mazak i300 or Haas UMC
3-axis machining centres such as Haas VF-2 or Doosan
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
Advanced knowledge of machining processes, tooling, workholding methods, and cutting strategies
Proficiency with precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and related inspection tools
Experience with deburring and finishing precision-machined components
Experience using CMM equipment, particularly Micro-Vu and/or Hexagon systems, would be advantageous
Exposure to CNC programming or CAM systems such as TopSolid would be advantageous
Experience across all machine platforms is not required. We value strong machining fundamentals, a willingness to learn, and the right attitude.
What Will Make You Successful
Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
Able to work independently while remaining a team player
Proven ability to manage priorities and maintain high standards with minimal supervision
Comfortable raising quality, safety, production, or process concerns and working collaboratively to resolve them
Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgement, and a methodical approach to troubleshooting
Takes initiative, seeks solutions, and knows when to escalate issues or ask for support
Willing to assist wherever needed to help the team succeed
Interested in helping shape workshop standards, systems, and culture as the business continues to grow
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Calm, organised, and reliable under pressure
Relevant trade qualification (preferred)
You understand that quality isn't inspected into a part at the end of the process. You take ownership of quality from setup through to final inspection and ensure every component leaving your machine meets specification.
You communicate clearly and professionally in English and can confidently understand work instructions, technical documentation, and discussions relating to quality, production, and safety.
We're looking for attitude and capability. If you have experience with some, but not all, of the machines listed above and believe you can add value to our team, we'd still like to hear from you.
