About the opportunity

Tilemax Christchurch is looking for an experienced, motivated salesperson to join our dedicated Trade Centre in Middleton.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with trade customers, building genuine relationships and helping grow a business. Someone who takes ownership, knows how to look after customers and isn't afraid to get involved in the day-to-day operation of a busy trade store.

This is a varied role combining trade sales, account management and hands-on customer service. You'll be based primarily at our Trade Centre, working directly with customers while also getting out to visit contractors, strengthen existing relationships and develop new business opportunities.

You'll be joining an established business with a substantial customer base, a purpose-built Trade Centre and a wide range of industry-leading products.

What you'll be doing:

- Building and maintaining strong relationships with our existing trade customers, including tilers, builders and other contractors.
- Proactively contacting customers, following up opportunities and identifying ways to grow their business with Tilemax.
- Developing new trade accounts and strengthening our presence in the Christchurch construction market.
- Providing knowledgeable, practical product advice and helping customers find the right solutions for their projects.
- Handling trade counter sales, customer enquiries, pricing, quotes and orders.
- Visiting customers and job sites when required.
- Working alongside our warehouse and sales teams, including helping prepare orders and assisting with general store operations when needed.
- Developing a strong understanding of our products, suppliers and systems.

You'll initially spend most of your time working alongside our team in-store, getting familiar with our customers, products and systems. As your knowledge and relationships develop, there will be more opportunities to get out on the road and grow your accounts.

Who we're looking for

Ideally, you'll have experience in trade sales, account management or a customer-facing role within the building and construction supply industry.

Experience working for a building merchant, plumbing supplier, flooring company, electrical wholesaler or similar trade business would be particularly valuable.

More importantly, we're looking for someone who:

- Is confident, approachable and genuinely enjoys dealing with people.
- Understands how trade customers operate and what matters to them.
- Takes initiative, follows things through and doesn't need constant direction.
- Has a good commercial understanding and knows how to build profitable customer relationships.
- Is organised, reliable and comfortable managing multiple customer enquiries and priorities.
- Is happy working in a hands-on environment and helping the wider team when needed.
- Is comfortable learning new products and computer systems.
- Holds a full, current NZ driver's licence.

Previous experience in the tiling industry would be an advantage, but isn't essential. We're happy to provide product training for someone with the right background and attitude.

Hours and location

Our Trade Centre is located at 244 Annex Road, Middleton, Christchurch.

The position is full-time, with the following hours:

- Monday to Friday: 7:00am–4:30pm
- Every second Saturday: 8:00am–12:00pm

These hours are part of the salaried position.
