About the role

NZ Labour Hire Group is seeking a skilled Civil Operator Class 2 to join our growing team in Hamilton Central Waikato. This is a full-time position offering an exciting opportunity to work on diverse civil construction projects across the region. As a Civil Operator Class 2, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a range of plant and machinery on construction sites, contributing directly to the successful delivery of infrastructure projects. This role is integral to our operations, ensuring that all equipment is operated safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Operate a variety of civil construction plant and machinery including excavators, bulldozers, graders, roller compactors and other heavy equipment

• Perform pre-operation inspections and maintenance checks on all machinery to ensure safe and efficient operation

• Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, fuel consumption and maintenance schedules

• Follow all site safety protocols, procedures and instructions from supervisors and site managers

• Operate machinery with precision to meet project specifications and quality standards

• Communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors regarding equipment performance and site conditions

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and report issues to maintenance personnel

• Comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, including resource management and environmental regulations

• Support the broader construction team to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

What we're looking for

• Current and valid Drivers licence with Class 2 and WTR. Class 4 and 5 is a bonus

• Proven experience operating heavy plant and machinery on construction or civil engineering sites

• Strong knowledge of health and safety practices relevant to plant operation and construction environments

• Demonstrated ability to work safely and responsibly in fast-paced, dynamic site environments

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the ability to take direction and work collaboratively

• Physical fitness and capability to perform the demands of the role, including prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive movements

• A positive attitude towards continuous learning and professional development

• Reliability and punctuality, with flexibility to adapt to project requirements and site conditions

• Experience with specific equipment types such as excavators, dozers or graders is highly valued

• Must be drug free and a do a criminal history check.
