1 in 3. That’s how many New Zealanders will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetimes. At the Cancer Society, our vision ‘working together towards a future free from cancer’ guides everything we do.

One way we do this is by supporting individuals and their whānau through their cancer journey, offering a range of services that provide practical and psychosocial support.  If you are looking for a role with meaningful mahi that truly makes a difference, you could be our next Cancer Navigator.

Āu Mahi – What You Will Do

As a Cancer Navigator, the primary focus of your role will be to work alongside individuals and their whānau following a cancer diagnosis, supporting them to navigate their journey and connect them with the right information and support services.  Every whānau is different, so understanding everyone’s individual needs is key to ensuring we’re providing support that is appropriate and meaningful.

As part of our Coastal Otago team, this role supports whānau across the Dunedin and South Otago communities. We’re open to the successful candidate being based anywhere between South Otago and our centre in Dunedin, while maintaining a clear focus on supporting the South Otago communities. A typical week will see you splitting your time between your base location and working out in the community, running our drop-in clinics.

Our ideal candidate will be available to work 36 hours per week, although we would consider 30+ hours per week for the right candidate, and we're happy to work with you to find hours that suit both you and the team. We also get that life is busy, so work life balance and flexibility are really important to us – we trust you to manage your own time and balance the needs of you and your whānau.
