Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the Role

The Treasury is seeking an intern to join our Fiscal Reporting team, working closely with the legal team within the Budget and Fiscal Performance division. The Treasury provides advice on key fiscal implications of policy choices to support government decision-making.

New Zealand is a global leader in financial transparency, and this project aims to enhance the documentation and classification of government indemnities. Indemnities provide security or protection against financial loss, and this role will involve:

  • Conducting a stocktake of indemnities across Treasury Finance, other agencies, and Crown entities.
  • Compiling a digital catalogue of indemnities for easy access and searchability.
  • Analysing indemnities based on quantum or risk.
  • Assessing the portfolio's aggregate risk and fiscal exposure.

You will work alongside experienced Treasury staff, receive coaching and feedback, and gain exposure to how major government policy and funding decisions can impact the Government.

Ideally you would be able to work full-time, but there is flexibility for the role to be part-time for the right person. The start date is also flexible and can be discussed with shortlisted candidates during the interview process.
