Who We Are:
At Meredith Connell, we’re far from your average law firm. For more than a century, we’ve been trusted advisors to the public sector. We’re passionate about public interest legal work - dedicated to serving the Crown, local government, central government agencies, and commercial regulators. Serving these clients and the community has always been what we’re about. We value and celebrate our people and take pride in being a diverse and inclusive firm. Joining MC means becoming part of a team that is people-centric and collaborative. If you are looking for a place where your work truly makes a difference, in an environment of excellence and support, MC is the place for you.
The Team - Local Government:
This opportunity sits within our Local Government team. It’s a close knit and high performing group working with a range of local government and public interest clients. The team is known for their collaborative spirit, and strong focus on development and ownership at every level.
The Role:
This is a new opportunity due to growth. We're looking for a 3-8 year PQE lawyer with experience in property and commercial work (the focus is more property, but we’re open to various blends/specialisations). The successful person will be an integral part of the wider team, working closely with the other members operating in this space.
The work is interesting and diverse, operating across our local government, central government and private sector development client bases. The projects are many and varied, from complex infrastructure arrangements through to major acquisitions, and everything in between.
What We’re Looking For:
· You’ll have 3-8 years of broad experience in property/commercial – again the focus is more on property, but we’re happy to consider a variety of experience blends.
· Interested in the local government sector (experience in the sector would also be valuable but is not essential).
· A client-focused approach.
· Strong drafting skills.
· A collaborative team member.
· You’ll thrive when engaged and challenged.
· Comfortable managing files independently.
· Either Auckland or Tauranga based (have you heard we now have a Tauranga office!)
Why Join Us?
· Real ownership, visibility, and opportunity for career progression.
· Interesting and varied work.
· Mentorship from respected leaders in the field.
· A collaborative, respectful culture that values excellence and authenticity.
· Join one of NZ’s leading teams working with Local Government.
