Habitat for Humanity

Lead with Purpose. Grow Your Career. Change Lives.

Join Habitat for Humanity's Dunedin ReStore as our Second-in-Charge and help lead a team that's making a real difference in the community every day. If you're an experienced retail leader who loves working with people and creating great customer experiences, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

Are you a natural leader who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment and enjoys bringing out the best in others?

As our Second-in-Charge (2IC) at Habitat for Humanity's Dunedin ReStore, you'll be more than just a retail leader. You'll play a key role in helping drive a store that directly supports local families and communities to access safe, healthy housing.

Working alongside the Store Manager, you'll help lead a passionate team of staff and volunteers, create exceptional customer experiences, and contribute to the growth and success of one of New Zealand's most recognisable charity retail networks. No two days are the same. From merchandising and stock management to coaching team members and achieving sales goals, you'll be at the heart of a dynamic and purpose-driven operation.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their retail leadership career, make a meaningful impact in their community, and be part of an organisation where every sale helps change lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the daily operations of the ReStore.

  • Assist in achieving store sales and operational targets.

  • Lead by example in providing outstanding customer service.

  • Support the recruitment, supervision, training, and development of staff and volunteers.

  • Assist with staff rostering and day-to-day team coordination.

  • Support stock handling, donations processing, merchandising, and inventory management.

  • Ensure the store is well-presented, organised, and customer-focused at all times.

  • Maintain high standards of health and safety within the store.

  • Assist with operational administration, reporting, and documentation.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative team culture.

  • Support the Store Manager with continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies.

About You

You're a people-focused leader who enjoys building strong teams, creating positive customer experiences, and helping a business achieve great results.

You bring energy, initiative, and a hands-on approach to leadership. Whether you're coaching team members, coordinating daily operations, or supporting a busy shop floor, you're someone who leads with confidence and positivity.

Most importantly, you're passionate about making a difference and excited by the opportunity to work for an organisation where commercial success directly contributes to community impact.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Previous experience in a retail leadership, supervisory, or team management role.

  • Experience managing, coaching, or supporting staff and volunteers.

  • Strong retail operational knowledge, including merchandising, stock control, and customer service.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Proven ability to motivate and develop team members.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach to problem solving.

  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and retail systems.

  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety.

  • Experience in a charity, community-focused, or second-hand retail environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
