We are seeking an experienced Lead Data Engineer to join a high-profile Federal Government program supporting the delivery of nationally significant earth observation and data analytics capabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, developing and maintaining enterprise-scale data platforms, cloud infrastructure and automated data pipelines that support critical scientific and operational outcomes.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with large-scale datasets, modern cloud technologies and cutting-edge data engineering practices within a collaborative and innovative environment. You will be offered an initial 12-month contract with extension potential and receive a rewarding hourly rate.
The successful Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for, but not limited to:
Designing, developing and maintaining data pipelines, workflows and cloud-based data platforms.
Supporting the delivery and optimisation of large-scale data processing and analytics capabilities.
Implementing automated testing, deployment and orchestration solutions across cloud environments.
Providing technical leadership, guidance and knowledge sharing across multidisciplinary teams.
Embedding security, reliability and performance best practices throughout platform and solution delivery.
The successful Lead Data Engineer will have:
Demonstrated experience working with large and complex datasets within cloud-based environments.
Strong expertise in AWS, Python, Kubernetes and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
Experience developing and supporting automated data pipelines, workflows and analytics platforms.
Proven ability to provide technical leadership and drive engineering best practices across teams.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
