Enjoy meeting new people and getting out in the community? Join our team and take the lead on the local delivery of two exciting tourism research projects in Wānaka, Queenstown and the wider district.
We’re looking for a Field Researcher to help us gather vital tourism research data directly from the public, inviting them to complete a short iPad-based survey. This isn’t a sit-at-your-desk research role. You need to be comfortable out in busy public spaces, talking to people, and encouraging them to share their views.
This position offers you the opportunity to:
Develop skills in an independent, public-facing role.
Contribute to meaningful research that shapes the future of tourism in the region.
Be part of a respected research company with nearly 25 years of specialist experience in New Zealand and around the world.
What the job is really like
You’ll have weekly quotas of survey respondents to recruit. These aren’t sales targets, but they are essential for the research to succeed.
Not everyone will want to participate, so you’ll likely hear “no” a lot, and staying upbeat and persistent is key.
You will be speaking with a range of people, visitors to the region and locals alike, and will need to be able to explain the research we are doing and why it is important.
We can tailor the role to match your skills and availability; it can work well with other part-time roles, typically involving around 6 hours a week.
Where we support you
Structured onboarding so you feel confident before you’re on the job.
Training in both research practices and public engagement.
Competitive remuneration of $40-50 per hour.
Who this role suits best
People with experience in door-to-door sales, street fundraising, events promotion, or other customer-facing roles where resilience and personality matter.
Anyone with an interest in tourism or research (both are great, but one or the other is enough).
Reliable, professional go-getters with a drive to meet quotas and deliver quality responses.
To apply
Please send your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in the role. If you have any additional questions, please contact [email protected].
