About the Role

The Cable Jointer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, testing, and fault response of underground low-voltage (LV), high-voltage (HV), and extra-high-voltage (EHV) cable networks. Working across construction, maintenance, and emergency response activities, this role plays a critical part in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electricity distribution infrastructure.

The Cable Jointer applies specialist technical skills to underground network assets, supports planned and reactive works, and works closely with field staff, clients, and network owners to deliver high-quality outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of safety and compliance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Install, terminate, joint, repair, and maintain LV, HV, and EHV underground cables in accordance with approved standards, procedures, and authorisation levels.

  • Identify and verify electrical systems, circuits, and assets prior to commencing work to ensure work is completed safely and accurately.

  • Complete allocated construction, maintenance, and repair activities on underground electricity networks to meet quality, productivity, and client requirements.

  • Respond to network faults and outages, providing timely assistance in fault restoration activities and participating in standby rosters as required.

  • Operate and work on ground-mounted and structure-mounted electrical equipment associated with electricity networks up to 33kV.

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to health, safety, and wellbeing by complying with all company policies, industry regulations, and the Health and Safety at Work Act.

  • Take reasonable care of personal health and safety and the safety of colleagues, contractors, customers, and members of the public who may be affected by work activities.

  • Ensure all personal protective equipment (PPE), safety devices, barriers, guards, tools, and plant are used correctly, maintained appropriately, and remain fit for purpose.

  • Report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly and exercise stop-work authority if there are concerns regarding personal or public safety.

  • Maintain all required licences, competencies, training, and authorisations necessary to safely perform prescribed electrical work.

  • Actively participate in safety observations, toolbox meetings, worker engagement activities, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen workplace safety performance.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Recognised Cable Jointing qualification or equivalent electrical industry certification relevant to the level of work being undertaken.

  • Current industry authorisations, competencies, and certifications required to perform cable jointing and underground network work safely and legally.

  • Demonstrated experience in the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of underground distribution cable networks.

  • Strong practical knowledge of LV, HV, and EHV cable systems, jointing techniques, network equipment, and associated electrical infrastructure.

  • Sound understanding of electricity industry regulations, standards, codes of practice, and safe work procedures.

  • Current driver's licence and the ability to travel and work across regional locations as required to support project and fault response activities.
