Onyx Recruitment have partnered with a leading practice to recruit a Principal level architect for this companies Nelson office.
About the role
This is a senior, delivery-focused leadership role. You'll be responsible for the capability, culture and performance of the Nelson architecture team. You'll work alongside a dedicated Design Lead and business development function, and take projects from late concept through to practical completion. The role also sits on a genuine pathway to share ownership in the business.
Key responsibilities
Lead, mentor and develop the Nelson team, including 1:1s and a structured buddy system
Take the lead on projects from developed design through documentation and delivery
Place a named project lead on every project and keep the studio well resourced
Run regular design and technical reviews as part of a strong delivery culture
Oversee procurement, contract administration and consultant coordination
Monitor fees, margin and utilisation, and report to the Business Manager
Keep clients well served through delivery and contribute to the national leadership group
About you
12+ years' post-qualification experience
Proven experience leading architecture teams and delivering projects through to completion
Strong knowledge of NZ building consent processes, construction contracts and documentation standards
Commercial awareness across fees, margin and resourcing
A natural people leader who builds a clear studio rhythm, and who wants the team to feel supported, empowered and able to reach them
Familiarity with, or interest in, the Nelson market is an advantage
