Waikato-based | Internal Tech Team | Civil Construction Sector
We’re looking for someone who can sit between the business and Digital, understand the problem, turn it into something practical, and keep things moving until a working solution is in front of the people who need it.
This is a full-time, permanent role in our small internal digital team at Schick, a Waikato-based civil construction company.
You’ll work directly with people across the business, from operational teams and contract managers through to finance, management and developers. The role is not about sitting on the sideline writing requirements and handing them over. You’ll stay close to the problem, work alongside the development team and help turn conversations into working solutions that make a real difference to how people work.
Applicants must be currently residing in New Zealand with NZ citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa. We are not able to provide visa sponsorship for this role.
Who Are We?
The Schick Group is a privately owned civil contracting and property development company based in the Waikato. We deliver a full range of end-to-end civil construction services across New Zealand and are proud to be an employer that genuinely cares about its people.
We stay true to our values in every decision and create an environment where people can do meaningful work and build rewarding careers.
Our mantra — “building communities from the ground up” — applies both to the infrastructure we build and the local communities we support. We actively contribute to social and community initiatives because we believe strong communities benefit everyone.
Work Style & Culture
We’re a small, in-house team solving real problems for the business.
The environment is collaborative, low-ego and focused on practical outcomes. We prefer getting something useful in front of people quickly, then refining it based on real feedback rather than spending weeks trying to make something perfect on paper.
Most of the team works from the office for the majority of the week, with flexibility to work from home when it makes sense for the work.
We’re continuing to grow our digital capability across software, data, automation and AI, but the focus stays the same: understand the problem, build something useful and make sure it works in the real business.
About the Role
The Digital Product & Delivery Lead sits between the business and Digital and keeps the delivery loop moving.
A big part of the role comes down to three things:
Business knowledge: understand how the business works, challenge assumptions, ask the next question and recognise the scenarios that matter.
Relationships: build credibility across the business and translate effectively between business teams and Digital.
Drive action: turn conversations into clear next steps, keep developers and stakeholders moving, and get working solutions back in front of the business quickly.
You’ll also own the delivery and reporting side of the work, making sure priorities, risks, dependencies, decisions and outcomes are visible. Success is measured by adoption, business improvement and realised value, not just whether the project was delivered.
What You’ll Do
Work directly with business teams to understand workflows, problems, constraints and opportunities.
Get to the real problem rather than simply accepting the first solution presented.
Translate business needs into clear outcomes, workflows, scenarios and requirements developers can act on.
Make recommendations on priorities, options and trade-offs so the business can make clear decisions before delivery starts.
Keep delivery moving from discussion through to working solution.
Work closely with developers throughout delivery, providing context, answering questions and challenging what comes back.
Get early versions in front of users, gather feedback and keep the iteration moving.
Coordinate business testing and make sure solutions work operationally, not just technically.
Drive rollout and adoption of new digital tools and processes.
Maintain project plans, priorities, milestones, risks, dependencies and decisions.
Provide clear project reporting on progress, issues, next steps and business outcomes.
Identify where software, data, automation or AI can remove friction, improve decisions or create measurable business value.
Work with subject matter experts to capture business knowledge, rules and scenarios that can be built into digital solutions.
Measure whether delivered solutions are creating the expected business benefit.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone comfortable operating between people, process and technology, who can work effectively with developers, challenge assumptions, ask good questions and keep delivery moving.
What matters:
A track record of delivering digital solutions across Business Analysis, Product, Digital Delivery, Implementation or similar roles.
Strong communication with both technical and non-technical people.
The ability to turn unclear business problems into practical outcomes.
Confidence challenging assumptions and asking the next question.
Strong ownership and follow-through.
The ability to manage project reporting, risks, dependencies and stakeholder expectations.
A preference for working solutions and real feedback over perfect theory.
Comfort working with ambiguity and changing priorities.
A focus on whether a solution gets used and delivers value, not just whether the project was completed.
Experience in construction, infrastructure, operations or another practical, project-based environment is an advantage.
Exposure to AI, automation or data-driven tools is an advantage.
Why This Role
The way Digital teams deliver is changing, with Business Analysis, Project Management, Product and Implementation increasingly overlapping.
We need someone who can work across those areas, stay close to the business and turn problems into working solutions.
If you like understanding how a business really works, working closely with developers and seeing something move from conversation to something people are actually using, this role will probably make sense to you.
