At Sowman’s Funerals, we’ve been caring for Marlborough families since 1869. While we’re incredibly proud of our history, it’s the people behind our name who make us who we are today.
Funeral service is a unique profession, it can involve challenging and deeply sensitive situations. Having a strong support network, being able to rely on your colleagues and knowing you’re part of a team that has your back makes all the difference. Some days are incredibly rewarding, others can be emotionally demanding. We believe the strength of our team lies not only in the care we provide to families, but also in the care and support we give each other.
We’re looking for someone to join us in a full-time Funeral Director / Embalmer role.
Experience in the funeral industry would be an advantage, but we’re open to the right person who brings the right attitude, values and willingness to learn.

Has emotional maturity and resilience to approach and navigate sensitive and challenging situations.
Is independent, takes initiative and can think on their feet.
Has an open mind, is adaptable and willing to learn.
Is a genuine team player who understands the importance of supporting those around them.
Is practical, approachable and happy to get stuck in wherever needed.
Understands the nature of funeral service and is available and able to participate in a rostered on-call schedule, as this is essential part of the role.
Is comfortable and confident with the hands-on aspects of caring for the deceased, always caring for those entrusted to us with dignity and respect.
