The Role Working across approximately 70% backend and 30% frontend development, your responsibilities will include:
- Design, develop and deliver scalable backend services using Kotlin, Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain REST APIs, microservices and distributed applications.
- Develop frontend functionality using React and TypeScript.
- Deliver new features from initial requirements through to development, testing and production.
- Design and optimise PostgreSQL databases, queries and data access patterns.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, ensuring automated testing and reliable deployments.
- Contribute to cloud-native development, infrastructure and deployment processes.
- Build and enhance automated workflows supporting complex business processes.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, Product Owners and cross-functional teams to refine requirements and develop practical technical solutions.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience, with strong hands-on development experience.
- Commercial experience with both Kotlin and Java, including Spring Boot and modern JVM development.
- Proven greenfield development experience, building new applications, platforms or significant platform components.
- Strong REST API and microservices development experience, including distributed systems, error handling and observability.
- Hands-on React and TypeScript experience, with the ability to develop and debug frontend functionality.
- Strong PostgreSQL and SQL experience, including schema design, query optimisation, transactions, indexing and ORM frameworks.
- Demonstrated CI/CD experience, including GitHub Actions, automated testing and deployment pipelines.
- Cloud experience across GCP, AWS or Azure, including containerised applications and Kubernetes concepts.
- Experience with Git, branching strategies, code reviews and modern software engineering practices.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge requirements and take ownership of technical solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working closely with engineers and product teams.
- Experience with Temporal.io or similar workflow orchestration technologies.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP) experience.
- Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code.
- Experience with BigQuery, Redshift or similar analytical data platforms.
- Experience building inventory management, distribution, advertising or other complex enterprise platforms.
- Greenfield development: Build a new platform from the ground up using modern technologies.
