As a Senior Financial Accountant, you will lead group accounting across our New Zealand and Australian entities, delivering accurate, timely reporting to support our growth. This is a hands-on role with real scope to shape how our group finance function runs as we expand. You will report to the Finance Manager and work closely with the Managing Director and leaders across the business.

• Year-end processes delivered on time, with clean packs for our external accountants.

• A supported, capable finance team, with work reviewed and knowledge shared.
Key Responsibilities
Group Accounting & Reporting
• Prepare the monthly group consolidation across NZ and AU entities, including intercompany eliminations and FX translation.
• Lead month-end close across all entities, including journals, accruals, provisions, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Own intercompany accounting: recharges, reconciliations, and settlement between entities.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts with supporting analysis.
• Deliver divisional and regional reporting to support visibility and informed decision-making.
• Manage inventory accounting, including stock reconciliations, WIP, and cost allocations.
Tax & Compliance
• Review and submit GST (including GST group), RWT, and FBT returns and AU BAS, along with other mandatory financial and regulatory reporting obligations.
• Drive year-end processes and coordinate with external accountants.
• Support provisional and income tax work with our external tax advisers.
Systems & Improvement
• Be a strong, hands-on Odoo user, maintaining the chart of accounts, analytic accounts, and coding guides.
• Identify and lead initiatives to improve systems, reporting, and business processes that enable us to scale effectively.
• Build clear process documentation so knowledge is shared across the team.
Team & Business Partnership
• Review team members' work and coach them on technical accounting.
• Provide financial insights to the Managing Director, Finance Manager, and team leaders for budgeting and forecasting.
• Assist with cash flow management and financial forecasting activities.
Culture
• Foster a culture of accuracy, accountability, and collaboration.
• Champion financial literacy across the business, ensuring teams understand the economic impact of their decisions.
• Actively contribute to maintaining a positive, high-trust culture where team members feel supported and empowered to contribute ideas for improvement.
Skills and Responsibilities
• 5+ years' senior accounting experience, including preparing group or consolidated accounts in a multi-entity or multi-region business.
• CA/CPA qualified.
• Hands-on intercompany accounting experience; Australian entity exposure is an advantage.
• Experience reviewing and mentoring others, and happy to roll up your sleeves and do the work.
• Strong knowledge of NZ GST and tax compliance.
• Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience preferred (Odoo an advantage).
• Experience incorporating AI into the accounting process to streamline accounting operations.
• Excellent attention to detail and time management.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Familiarity with inventory, production, and project accounting is advantageous.
• Ideally, Big 4 or mid-tier practice experience.
