Assistant Shop Manager  – Waipuna Hospice

Part-time: 31 hours per week (Sunday to Wednesday)

Tauranga central location

Represent our cause and connect with the community

Make your next role matter

At Waipuna Hospice, every role contributes to something bigger.

Our charity shops turn donated goods into vital funds, helping provide specialist palliative care and support to people living with a life-limiting illness and their whānau across Tauranga and the Western Bay of Plenty.

Behind every shop is a team making it all happen. Our depot plays a key part in keeping goods moving, supporting our shops and making the most of the community’s generosity. As a Storeperson, your practical, hands-on work will help turn donations into care.

Our retail team brings together employees, volunteers, donors and customers with a shared purpose. We value teamwork, take pride in what we do, and give donated goods a second life while raising funds for a service our community relies on.

When you join Waipuna Hospice, you join a team that cares about its people and the difference we make together.

About the Role

As Assistant Shop Manager, you’ll play a key leadership role in a high‑volume charity retail environment – working alongside the Shop Manager to ensure the shop runs efficiently day to day.  In this fast‑paced environment, efficient stock flow and pricing, visual merchandising and customer care are all critical to optimising funding for our vital community work.

This hands‑on role, in a dynamic, 7-day work environment will suit a retail leader who enjoys being on the shop floor, juggling priorities, and keeping momentum high. The shop is supported by paid staff and volunteers and you’ll create a positive, inclusive team culture where people feel valued, supported, and clear about expectations - even on the busiest days.

The key tasks of the position include:

  • Managing day-to-day operations of the shop and supporting the Shop Manager
  • Stock management including presentation, creative merchandising, pricing, and storage
  • Management of volunteers to ensure a smooth workflow
  • Generating appeal and demand of donated goods to increase revenue growth
  • Ensuring legal and organisational requirements are met
  • Enhancing the profile of Waipuna Hospice

The hours are Sunday 9.00am – 4.30pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 8.00am – 4.30pm

Additional hours may be required from time to time to cover annual leave and sickness.

  • Strong relationship skills and confidence supporting employees and volunteers.
  • The ability to motivate others, develop performance and grow sales.
  • Creative flair and an eye for merchandising and displays.
