We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer for an immediate-start, 6-month contract supporting major mining and resources projects. This role offers the opportunity to work across a range of electrical design and engineering deliverables in a fast-paced project environment, with exposure to leading mining clients and complex industrial systems.
This position will suit a hands-on designer who thrives in project environments and can deliver high-quality engineering documentation while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
The Opportunity
As the Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of electrical design documentation, cable schedules, schematics, and construction-ready design packages for mining and industrial projects.
You will work closely with project managers, control systems engineers, mechanical engineers, and construction personnel to ensure designs are delivered safely, accurately, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and document electrical systems for mining, industrial, and resources projects.
- Develop electrical schematics, control circuit diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
- Produce cable installation drawings, cable routing layouts, and termination drawings.
- Create and maintain cable schedules, equipment lists, and drawing registers.
- Develop electrical design packages suitable for construction and installation.
- Review and update existing drawings to incorporate site-specific requirements.
- Coordinate electrical designs with control systems, mechanical, and project teams.
- Ensure all engineering documentation complies with relevant Australian Standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
Skills & Experience
To be successful, you will bring:
- Proven experience delivering electrical designs for mining, heavy industrial, or resources sector projects.
- Strong capability in electrical drafting and design documentation.
- Experience developing:
- Electrical schematics
- Control circuit diagrams
- Wiring diagrams
- Cable routing and installation drawings
- Cable schedules and termination documentation
- Experience working with electrical control panels, PLC systems, and field instrumentation.
- Exposure to Pilz Safety PLC systems and machine safety design would be highly regarded.
- Previous experience working to Fortescue (FMG) standards, specifications, and design processes is highly desirable.
- Ability to interpret engineering standards, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality engineering documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and manage competing project deadlines.
